Why We Love It

  • Eastwood Hall is set in exetensive parkland grounds on the edge of Eastwood, a former coal-mining town
  • DH Lawrence was born here, and there is a museum dedicated to him nearby
  • The hotel is built around a Grade II-listed Georgian manor house

"My surprise from the chef whilst having evening meal. It was my special birthday and I received a lovely platter of mini desserts with Happy Birthday written in juice, just before being served the dessert that I had ordered. Really thoughtful gesture which was much appreciated."

Eastwood Hall sits in 26 acres of private grounds, 30 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre. The heart of the hotel is a Georgian manor house (pictured), built as a family home around 1810, and later used by British Coal as a regional office. Today the manor is a wedding and conference venue, and bedrooms are in a modern annex at the back of the hotel complex.

The property is on the edge of Eastwood, a former mining town bordered by farms and countryside. The DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum (open 10am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday) is the author's childhood home and is a 10-minute walk away; you can learn how growing up in Eastwood influenced the author's controversial writing. The Blue Line Trail is a walk that links all of the Lawrence-related sights nearby.

Beauvale Priory and Felley Priory are around 10 minutes' drive away; both have quaint tea rooms that serve homemade cakes and light lunches. The Derwent Valley Heritage Way is a 55-mile-long footpath that runs through the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. It passes a series of 18th- and 19th-century mill complexes and the watercourses that powered them, and can be reached from Belper or Duffied, which are both less than 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. Wollaton Hall, Papplewick Hall and Thrumpton Hall stately homes can all be reached within 30 minutes, and Sherwood Forest -- of Robin Hood fame -- is 45 minutes' drive away.

All 150 bedrooms are in a contemporary annex, and are decorated in neutral tones. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar. Wi-Fi is free.

We have visited this Hotel many times now, usually to celebrate either my birthday or my husband’s birthdays in December. We have always had a positive and very enjoyable experience. The staff are most welcoming and the dining staff are always polite, friendly and very efficient. The meals are first class and we would recommend it to anyone.

The food was for the most part excellent but the chips were rubbish I would expect them to be fresh not the frozen variety!

Karen was good - the saving grace!

The room was representative of standard, rather than superior room - carpet was stained & threadbare in corner by radiator - no in room safe (though directory says there is) - room 124 was next to storage cupboard's so staff were utilising these - was also at junction so tended to be noisy as guests talking before parting ways (until 3am!) Meal was OK - more - took ages to get puddings (had to remind staff twice) and half menu wasn't available (with no options offered). Breakfast was quite nice with a good choice. Staff were mixed - in terms of attitude - Karen in restaurant was great - others no so much. Location near Nottingham is good.

Breakfast was great

Rooms were OK, we had a large quiet room that looked a bit tired. TV and Shower were dreadful, no remote control and very poor signal. The shower would not stay in place. Food was very average for dinner, Wetherspoons standards. Breakfast had a fantastic range of poorer quality items. Nice touch with free tea and coffee during daytime hours.

Our 2nd visit to Eastwood Hall using a Travelzoo offer. Our only criticism is the food. Unfortunately, for the 2nd time the food at dinner did not live up to expectations. As a main course we both had the steak. We asked for it to be cooked medium. When it arrived it was burnt on top & very tough. The half slice tomato accompaniment was almost black on top. Very disappointing! However, breakfast was very enjoyable with plenty of choice.

Excellent leisure facilities

A little disappointed with the food. Steak was over cooked , despite asking for medium rare. Dessert wasn’t quite as advertised but we were not told this when ordering. We chose not to eat in on our second night.
