Why We Love This Hotel
- The Townhouse Chester is a "beautiful building and spotlessly clean" according to Travelzoo members who have stayed there. There is a cosy lounge and an outdoor terrace.
- Take a leisurely walk or boat ride at the River Dee, two minutes' walk away. The Groves, a scenic riverside path, has a choice of cafes, pubs, and restaurants.
- Head into nearby Grosvenor Park to visit the Roman Amphitheatre and gardens. It is 10 minutes' walk away.
- The city walls are known for being some of the most ancient and complete in Britain. They offer an elevated position from which to admire the city. Access points are at Northgate, Eastgate, Watergate, and Bridgegate.
- Chester's boutiques and independent shops are less than five minutes' walk away. The Rows are half-timbered galleries dating from the Medieval era.

Great staff also smooth check-in and departure process. Good breakfast. Very clean rooms too.
Lighting in the room was poor, the wash-handbasin was tiny, the wall mirror protruding over the basin and the large tap took up space too. Suitable for (small) hand washing only.
Note: for anyone with mobility issues there are several flights of stairs to negotiate, some steep, unless occupying a ground floor room. I recommend the hotel but find the stairs too challenging for me to stay there again.

As previously, we found tge staff to be very friendly, welcoming and considerate. All requests were handled courteous and efficiently including a room change for a couple in our group. The rooms and communal areas were clean, fresh and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent both in range of choices available and the quality of food provided. We enjoyed using the bar area for playing cards and "trying to play pool". The receptionist was exceptional in the service she provided. Thanks for a lovely stay and we hope to be back again.

We absolutely enjoyed our two day break at this atmospheric hotel. Breakfast was fabulous with real tea (no bags, how rare these days!) and full English cooked to perfection. As we all know, the country was snowed under, but the hotel was warm, cosy and welcoming. Will we go again? Without a doubt!

We were promptly checked in upon arrival and given details of where our room was located and what time breakfast was the following day. The room was lovely and spacious, bed was very comfortable and we had tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was lovely in the small dining area, with a variety of food and drink to choose from. From checking in to checking out the staff customer care was genuine warm and caring. Perfect location in Chester . Rooms comfortable spacious plenty of towels and hot water . We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at The Townhouse. An excellent location. Handy for the river and town centre. Our bedroom was spacious and quiet. The whole hotel looks as if it has been fairly recently refurbished and also has a comfortable lounge. There was a good choice for breakfast which was cooked well. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we would definitely go there again.

We had a fantastic two nights . The beautiful Georgian building was lovely inside and was so well presented sensitive to the period . Excellent beds , excellent bathroom. Actually the word excellent could be used for every aspect of the hotel including staff , breakfast ,outside area ,management , location and value for money . We would highly recommend it to anyone !!!!

The travelzoo offer was great value for money making it possible to take an overnight stay with a friend. Location close to river is excellent and rooms were well furnished with everything you could need eg fan, hairdryer,water etc.

Mixed experience. Hotel redone nicely but for younger people without luggage (esp.large!). at least 30(bu could be 50)steps to room-no lift. Very poor lighting in room(esp by some beds)V poor wardrobe facilities Very new high tech. tv(no instr!)Hot rooms even with windows that open(no aircon) Bathroom nice but no place /shelves to put toiletries. Difficult to use high tech phone with no instructions (could be vital in emergency! then need to go down 40 steps)

This hotel is designed by 40 year old for 40 year olds! If you have big luggage or have mobility problems or above 65-70 it is not for you! If you need more light (eye probs) or need cool rooms or have clothes to hang up, not for you! Good points decorated nicely nice bathroom comfortable beds, friendly staff good food. Some points can be addressed but basic flaws (steps air con) cannot

Chose this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary as it was close to the river and central for all the main attractions in Chester. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed. It had tea & coffee facilities which we liked. The breakfast was included in the Travelzoo deal and it was really nice and set us up for the day. There are lots of restaurants in the area and all the main attractions in Chester are in walking distance. The staff were very friendly & helpful and we would certainly stay here again on our next trip to Chester.

Great location. Staff very helpful and breakfast was great, cooked ingredients all good quality. The only negative is the heat. A table fan in a 4 bedded room, with only one window which opened 7 inches it was suffocatingly hot, I didn't sleep a wink.

Nothing at all to complain about at the Townhouse. Staff were very helpful, polite and professional. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice. Location of the Townhouse was perfect. You could reach everywhere in the city within 30 minutes stroll. signage in Chester is not the best but that's nothing to do with the hotel !!! All in all if you want to visit Chester (and its well worth a visit) then The Townhouse is highly recommended. I will certainly be back. Thanks to all for making our stay even more enjoyable.

Prior to our visit we spoke to Becky in Reception and when we arrived it was a pleasure to meet such a pleasant young lady. We also enjoyed conversations with Nicola (the owner) and also chatted to Rita, Laura, Pedro and Jeff, who were all so friendly and helpful but also extremely professional. Breakfast had the most amazing choices and well done to Scott - the Chef. Hotels depend on the quality of staff and there is no doubt that everyone at The Townhouse were remarkable and we send our thanks to them all

The hotel was very good. Central and close to the town. The best breakfast served by friendly, chatty staff who were very attentive.
The only issue was the stairs.
I would make sure we had a room without stairs next time. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We really enjoyed our time in Chester. The hotel is in a great location and all the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our twin room was just what we needed with a lovely tea/coffee station on offer. Breakfast was amazing. Definitely recommend and will return.

Excellent staff and great location, so easy to park and then walk about 500mts to the hotel. Really pleasenat and attentive staff and comfortable room. It is a listed building and single glazed so the road noise is evident until around 12 midnight, but I take ear plugs so did not really bother me. Excellent location so close to all the attractions and many good restaurants, breakfast was plentiful in choice and freshly prepared hot selection.

Our second visit to this lovely hotel. Staff very welcoming, room very clean with everything you need- even a fan which was needed as luckily the weather was brilliant! Great location both near the riverside and the town centre. Top quality breakfast and again lovely staff. Sure we'll be back for a third visit later in the year.

Location very good - no.parking onside but nearby public parking. Staff friendly, relaxed and efficient. Bed - probably the most comfortable I have found in a hotel to-date. Hower livdly with plenty if hot water. Breakfast lovely. Highly recommend but be aware, no lift.

We spent a Saturday and a Sunday night in vibrant Chester. The Townhouse was aptly named as it at the heart of this vibrant city. The location, welcome from staff, the quiet en-suite room - spacious bed and very good shower - and the tasty continental, plus full English breakfast with high quality ingredients all lived up to expectation.

Only very minor point is the place was really warm, and no real ventilation in the room we were in so had to ask to get the window opened, but even so was still quite warm. Something to bear in mind if you are going in the warm summer months and maybe ask for a fan
