Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa is in the heart of the city, a short walk from Manchester Piccadilly railway station. It is housed in "the striking curved former BT building at the gateway into the city centre" (Manchester Evening News), and dominates London Road with its unusual boomerang-like shape.
There is plenty to see in this city -- theatres and museums, the Opera House, Manchester Arena and Manchester Art Gallery are all within a 25-minute walk of the hotel. Sports fans can be at Old Trafford in 10 minutes (by car), while those in search of retail therapy can head to the Trafford Centre shopping complex, within a 20-minute drive.
The hotel's Scottish Steakhouse Restaurant serves prime beef cuts supplied by Scottish farms, which are grilled on the coal-fuelled Josper Grill. After a day of sightseeing, you can unwind in the lounge bar with its velvet sofas and plasma TV, and enjoy light bites or after-dinner drinks.
Cheshire Life describes the on-site spa as "a tranquil, dark oasis" in the city centre, and the thermal suite includes an ice igloo, heated loungers and a hot-rock sauna (extra charges apply). A range of beauty treatments are available, and there's also a Technogym.
All 338 modern bedrooms have Wi-Fi, and triple glazing to keep out the city noise.
