Lovely old hotel in a great location. Ludlow is beautiful.
It was hot weather and our room was really very hot with no Aircon just a small fan. We were above the kitchen area and the extractor fan was excessively noisy!

Breakfast was ok nice quality ingredients but again such a long wait . Clearly not enough kitchen staff .

Room was small and extremely hot. There was a fridge in the wardrobe which was more like an oven emitting heat. Was not cooling at all and whole wardrobe too hot on inside and outside to touch. Reported it but told there all like that.
Fan asked for was inadequate and only circulated the hot air. Window only opened an inch again not any help. Sleep was impossible.
Evening meal was a let down . Very long wait from ordering to receiving food and quality and quantity not what we expected. Reception staff when we arrived early was a lovely lady very helpful but when we came back to actually check in there was a different lady who was obviously busy reading something on her phone and was annoyed we had disturbed her and not very helpful at all. She didn't want to interact and just gave us our key. Upon check out the same person was at the desk barely looked up to acknowledge us just took key off us. My wife nipped to toilet before we drove off and witnessed receptionist and a housekeeping member having a loud argument right there at the desk. Other staff members had come from the restaurant to try to stop the shouting as it was that loud.

The Feathers was a very historical hotel with some lovely old features. We arrived early and although couldn't access our room we were able to park very easily which was perfect.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We had room 102 which was at the front of the hotel which was great but it was very small. The bathroom was of a good size but there was limited space in room. The TV remote also didn't work (guess needed new batteries).
I did query the room size as wondered if it was a cosy double but was told it was the standard room.
The bonus though it was opposite the fire escape door that was opened so much easier to go in and out that way.
The dinner and breakfast were both enjoyable.

A pleasant stay, with a large superior bedroom and large en suite. Most staff were very helpful, but one receptionist chose to scroll her mobile and ignore me. No apology from her just a disgruntled “What!” When she looked up. The principal disappointment was the dinner on the first night. Insufficient vegetables and too many chips instead. Luckily on a friend’s recommendation we enjoyed a very good dinner at.the Charlton Arms - 10 minute walk beside the river. Excellent food and less than the Feather Hotel for price. Book early to get a window seat overlooking the River Teme.

I’m afraid the only downside was the food. Dinner in the restaurant was way below par for an establishment like The Feathers. Vegan mozzarella and tomato starter was tasteless and more cucumber than anything else; the fish cake was also lacking in flavour and was mushy; the rare steak was tough and chewy and not at all juicy. Breakfast was also disappointing - bacon was very overcooked and hard to cut, let alone chew.
We cancelled the restaurant booking for dinner on the second night and ate elsewhere. Such a shame.

Firstly we had to change the dates of our booking which was no problem, and we are grateful to both the hotel and Travelzoo for that. Parking was easy on arrival and we were given a beautiful King Size deluxe room with a balcony to the rear. The food in the restaurant the first evening was very nice , and breakfast both mornings was excellent. The hotel is located centrally in the lovely market town which was very walkable. The only issue we had was with a huge kitchen extractor just below the balcony which was deafening even with the patio doors closed. Staff did their best to ensure it was switched off between 9.30 pm and 0530 am so we did get some sleep! The decor and quality of the furniture and carpets was also very good! Overall a great stay in this beautiful historic hotel!

We had a great stay first time a few years back so thats why we returned to the hotel, This time the room was still good value but the food was not good! Breakfast was poor quality and dry, there was no fresh fruit only tinned, the evening meal was again poor quality and if I had walked in of the street I would have complained at the price of the meals but obviously having the £30 each discount on the meals ment we had it for nothing, some of the restaurant staff were disinterested and rude, but even with the discount we wouldn't go back

Been to The Feathers several times and as always, the staff are the stars in the crown - all not only efficient but friendly and deal with customers as individuals.
Found the hotel looking tired this time, with peeling paint on dirty outside windows and a general smell of mustiness in the lounges.
Meal on first night was part of our deal but very poor quality. I was assured that I would be given the money for my meal back but wasn't in the final bill and couldn't be bothered to quibble.

I shan't go back to this hotel, which was dear to my heart for a long time, because of its decline in maintenance and also, the general sense of depletion in Ludlow, which while still very culturally active, has an inceasing number of empty sho[ps and buildings

The food in the restaurant was expensive and nothing special. The cheese cake was £7.50, very small, round, tasteless, stodgy, overpriced. We mentioned this to the server who said she would pass this on to the chef.
We were offered still or sparkling water then charged £4.75 for it. To avoid this charge, ask for tap water, as this is not offered.

Management should have been better organised as they knew of people's bookings in advance. We were called by the hotel 2 days before and asked what time we would like to book the restaurant. The earliest available time was 8PM, but we still had to wait for an hour for our meals to arrive after ordering and I had to ask a waitress for our drinks after waiting 20 minutes. The food was fantastic when it eventually arrived, but the waiting time needs to be addressed, as it wasn't just our table which had a long wait and one of the waitresses spent lots of time apologising for the wait. I would like to hope that there were exceptional circumstances for the disorganisation.

Email sent to Crest Hotels - We had a stay at the Feathers booked for 13th April, and wanted to book a table for dinner at 19:00. I tried to call the hotel at 8PM on the 10th, but the call was not answered. I tried again on the 11th, and again it was unanswered. I decided to try option 1, reservations, and the lady I spoke with at 10:40 offered to call the Feathers and book the table for us, and also mention to the hotel that customers could not get through on telephone. I accepted the offer, and assumed our table would be booked.
We checked in 13th at around 15:15, and checked our dinner reservation - we didn't have one, and we were informed that due to a large coach party we couldn't have a table at 19:00. We had to change our plans and dine at 18:00. The receptionist issued us with two drinks vouchers in compensation.
Our room was 133, we discovered this was close to the kitchen extractor fans, which are quite noisy, and the smells from the kitchen permeate into the room, not ideal. We wanted to open the window, but this was not an option. We assumed that the fans would be switched off when kitchen service closed, but this was not the case, they were running all night. This was annoying and prevented sound sleep.
We realised the breakfast service had started at 06:30 as the smell of bacon entered the room. Not good.
We mentioned this at checkout, and the cost of parking and a glass of wine were deducted from our bill.
I appreciate the concessions made by the hotel staff, but the overall experience was spoiled for us, we had been looking forward to an enjoyable relaxing stay in Ludlow.
I await your comments,

Although interesting this is an ancient building which could have access problems for people with mobility issues although I'm sure the Hotel would try to accommodate. Felt the shower room could do with some TLC ( much of the tile grouting on floor missing, loose and crumbling, paintwork needed refreshing, towel rails not working etc). Food and service of high quality - thanks- but relatively little choice on an expensive restaurant menu. Wine quality average on sub £30 bottles which we felt were also highly expensive for what they were. All told a very pleasant stay.

Lovely hotel in the centre of ludlow. Small carpark. We stayed in room 122 first floor. There is a lift but still a few narrow corridors and a few steps to get to room. We didn’t mind this but if you have mobility issues might be a problem. Room was nice , looked like it had been refurbished in last couple of years. Quite warm in hotel including in the night. Food in restaurant was nice. Waiting on staff & bar staff friendly.

The food in restaurant was some of the worst ive had in a long time. Main was so cold as if just come out of fridge, we sent it back to be microwaved. Sweet was worse. freezing cold bread and butter pudding covered in luke warm custard. sent it bad. Waitress was nice and she was also shocked at how bad it was. Breakfast was rubbish. The granola was dust in a jar. No musseli and the cooked breakfast looked like it was as cheap as they could make it. Everything was low grade food. So we settled for shredded wheat. Not what you expect on a nice weekend away. We have a better breakfast at home.
Rood was very noisy due to the creaky floorboards above. Ok, i can accept this in a 500 year old building. There was an extractor fan runing for hours in another bedroom which became an ear worm and kept us awake until about 4 am when it stopped.
The seats in the restaurant are worn out. Very dirty to the point of sticky. Probably the worst chairs I've ever sat in in a hospitality setting.
We booked and paid for 2 nights, but left after first night, thus this was a very expensive one night away.

Although did have two pillows they were firm and I personally like soft fluffy pillows.
We were lucky to arrive just before the old menu was taken down n we had very nice food. The new restaurant menu had nothing of interest n just like a basic pub menu. I wouldn’t repeat my visit unless the menu changed back to more refined dining.

We have been coming for a number of years but on the last 2 occasions have noticed a reduction in staff but of course realise why. Whilst the quality of food remains excellent we did however have an hour's wait for our meal to be served. Also - it would be preferable that rooms accommodating dogs were kept purely for that as we had to change rooms due to a large amount of dog hairs on the carpet.

We appreciate the hotel is very old, but as the weather was very cold, the public rooms could have been warmer. Both outside doors open directly into the public areas which and were very draughty.
The towel rail/ radiator in our bathroom did not work, and room 244 was cold. The heater above on the wall struggled to get to temperature.
This was our second visit to the hotel, but the first time we found the very old and impressive Tudor rooms. There is a magnificent Great Hall but we felt nothing was done to promote or show this off. Comfortable furnishings and heating in James 1 and Edward IV would make these rooms so impressive and more welcoming to hotel guests as another lounge area.
Overall a good old hotel which we would recommend.

We were put in a room on the first floor facing the busy road and with the windows opposite looking straight into ours. I requested another room and we were given a smaller room - supposedly overlooking the Carpark - but it looked onto a flat roof with the noisy kitchen fans running.
Also we ordered a bottle of white wine (£32) and when they opened and served it it was very warm! I queried this and was told they didn’t have any in the fridge so it was brought up straight from the cellar. Had I known this I would’ve ordered another chilled one. We were given an ice bucket but had to wait 15 minutes for it to be acceptably chilled.

This is a unique experience because of the age of the building, whilst it's over 400 yrs old it has had a recent refurbishment so you get the best of both worlds an historic building with a modern feel and interior.
Staff were always helpful and friendly and our room was comfortable and clean.
We had a tasty meal in the restaurant with a variety of options to choose from.
Breakfast was plentiful and with plenty of choice.
The hotel is in the centre of town so it's perfect for exploring but because of its town location there is nightly parking charge of £7.50 and the car park at the rear of the hotel is quite small so get there early to be able to find a space.
We had a terrific time at this hotel and would definitely recommend it.
