There are almost 500 listed buildings in Ludlow, but with its "incredible Jacobean façade" (The Daily Telegraph) The Feathers Hotel is one of the most recognisable. The Grade I-listed building was built in the 17th century and gets its name from the feather motifs that adorned its exterior in tribute to the Prince of Wales
The Feathers Hotel is in the centre of Ludlow, a market town that John Betjeman, a former poet laureate of the United Kingdom, once described as "probably the loveliest town in England"
Head to the Ludlow Museum, the ruins of Ludlow Castle, and St Laurence's Church to learn more about the town's history — they are all approximately five minutes' walk from hotel.
The hotel is situated five minutes' drive from the borders of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
For panoramic views over the castle and town make for the Whitcliffe Common Nature Reserve, a gentle 20-minute stroll from the hotel. The town is also a great base from which to explore the woodlands, hills, and valleys of

Restaurant a disaster! Gave me and my wife different menus with different options. I ordered, and paid for, Rump of Welsh Lamb but served breast of lamb. On pointing this out to the waitress she said she would speak to the chef but heard no response. Pre dinner the bar menu offered 5 types of Ludlow Gin but only 2 in stock. Room was very cold, and according to other guests had been that way for several days.

We felt a little more attention to detail would make a huge difference to the experience. The duvet was way too thick for the weather, we had no glasses in the room, and some of the service was very slow and unpredictable. The restaurant food and staff were excellent, but our experience with the tea was flaky though the food was good. But overall we enjoyed it.

The hotel was fab , staff were very attentive and friendly. The rooms were delightful with beautiful bedding and towels.
My only negative was the choice on offer for vegetarians, we were there on a Sunday evening and it was a set Sunday menu there was only one veggie option. I just feel in 2022 This could have been Much better however the restaurant itself was lovely .

Visited to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary having spent the first night of our honeymoon there in 1977. There were many good things about our stay - VERY helpful and friendly staff in the restaurant and good food and drink. Sadly there were some issues that could and should be remedied. If a hotel is fully booked and it’s Easter week it shouldn’t run out of steak on a Monday night. You there will be lots of guests. There are 3 good butchers in town. One is opposite the hotel . Get some in. Not to do so is slack and sloppy. So is running out of wine. There are only five of each to choose from. It shouldn’t be too difficult to stock up - should it?
We won’t return to stay as who knows what the next special anniversary may bring but the food we had was so good that we would return to eat.
So - thanks for the good things and please sort out the bad

It was like Fawlty Towers! Not being very mobile I asked in advance about the parking and was told there were 2 Disabled Bays. No other advice about car parks was given. It looks like they have about 80 rooms but only 25 parking bays. Our first floor room had 26 steps between the lift and the room! NOT disabled friendly. Not all options available for dinner on the first night. Things ran out at breakfast like orange juice and grapefruit. Items my wife ordered ended up on my plate, etc. We had to ask the waiter for tea and coffee, and then for milk which arrived in a tiny cup, and spoons .... My laptop has connected to hotel wi-fi all over the world but it wouldn't connect to the Feathers; no problem at the Church Inn! On arrival we booked our first breakfast for 08.45 which went fine. That evening my wife asked me to check the next morning's breakfast and we were NOT booked in; the only time slot remaining was 09.30 but that was OK for us. On departure the bill was wrong. We had a two night deal including breakfast but had been charged extra for the second day's breakfast.

We had a wonderful 2 day stay to celebrate my husband's birthday. We stayed
in a deluxe room, the bed was enormous and Very comfortable.
The food in the restaurant was excellent. Our only problem was the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were very dry. I complained to the waitress, we said she would tell the kitchen. We were expecting some fresh sandwiches to be brought out. We waited a while, and then I called the waitress over. She insisted that the sandwiches had been freshly cut. We weren't the only people who complained.
This was the only thing that we weren't happy about

If you have any mobility problems bear in mind that although there is a lift, there are a lot of stairs to get to rooms, I think it's because the hotel is so old.

Very impressed with the refurbishment . Our room was lovely. The staff are friendly if a little disorganised. The take pride in working together & 'mucking in' but this means that no-one is taking charge so there are delays & things get missed. That said the food for afternoon tea & the evening dinner were excellent when they arrived. Breakfast was also very good & that was more orderly.
So as long as you are laid back & relaxed about service this place is fantastic. The Travelzoo deal was excellent value for money

Booked dinner for Sunday night but this did not reach the restaurant manager. She was outstandingly unhelpful and told us we would have to find another restaurant (most of which were closed on a Sunday evening). Does not seem to be a manager in overall control to maintain standards.Staff do their job but are not bothered about quality. Some of them try really hard but more than half struggle to be average.
The pro staff experience is why we would not go back.

They originally had our booking on their system for the wrong weekend, fortunately they rang the evening before our stay to query my table booking dates & had a room available to honour my booked voucher date. Could've been a disaster after a 3 hour journey to get there! A rather nervous start to our trip. Room 104 very comfortable, curtains a bit short so the light from the carpark shone through & intermittent fan outside noisy but bed was comfy so sleeping wasn't too badly disturbed. It was superb value with Travelzoo voucher but would I stay again given service & normal room rate? Unlikely.

We had a good visit last week, the food was decent (afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast all included on this deal), without any of it being that memorable. Our room was large, with a lovely rain shower in the bathroom. The bed was excellent, the only downside to the hotel was the occasionally creaky floorboard which I know you should expect from an ancient building, but these can be noisy, with late-comings or early departures.

The accommodation and location were excellent. Some of the service at the hotel was also excellent but we were not able to access our room until after 3pm on arrival as it wasn't ready by the 2pm check-in time. Also, at dinner on the first evening we had to wait an hour for our starter. Not good by any means. We also appear to have been charged too much (£50 more than the quoted price) which I am currently querying with the hotel.

Check in was easy; our room was at the far end of the hotel, overlooking the main road. The room was big and bright. Very comfortable bed and sufficient storage for clothing as only there for one night. Fridge in room (inside wardrobe). Large double shower in bathroom. The only issue is that the blinds have been fitted outside of window frame, which leaves a gap and makes viewing outside (and possibly inwards) quite easy. As this is a listed building the windows in the bathroom are sash and not opaque. Good selection of toiletries and towels. Iron, ironing board and hairdryer in wardrobe. Good selection of tea, coffee available in room The main issue was around service. We went downstairs to have cocktails and saw the waitress. She told us to take a seat and she would be with us momentarily. Ten minutes later she arrived, took our order and another 10 minutes before we got our drinks. No further checks to see if we wanted to place another round so had to go looking again. 2nd order did not take as long. In the restaurant for evening meal, we were the only ones seated for 20+ minutes so no atmosphere. We ordered a vegetable side dish that did not come out until we had almost finished our dish. However, food was very well made and good selection. I can recommend the goats cheese bon bons and the duck dish. The 3 choc sample dish for desert was quite rich with the dark chocolate choice. We had drinks afterwards in one of the front rooms and service was a little quicker. Breakfast was good - nice choice on the continental table but the issue we had with the cooked breakfast was not everything that was ordered came out and this was repeated on the opposite table as well. Coffee was exceptionally strong, so stick with tea. We had a afternoon tea included; the options were not explained very well - there were two afternoon choices, but that only became clearer as we placed our order. If you do not finish everything they will box up your leftovers.

You will definitely need to get there before check in time (on weekends - cannot comment on mid week bookings) because the car park fills up quickly and on street parking is chargeable. Parking can be quite tight so manoeuvring around the car park - take care. The hotel is directly opposite the Natwest Bank; missed it first drive by due to discreet entry and number of pedestrians walking past. In addition, I would highly recommend ringing before hand to book your table in the restaurant (we could not get the time we wanted on arrival).

Unfortunately the room was not ready for two hours after the allotted time. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes which became one and a half hours.
Although £2.5m recently spent on refurbishment, the room was not perfect. Curtain pelmet and large screen TV both sloped. New slate tiles in bathroom cracked, missing grout and uneven, hollow feel.

Having been to the hotel back in the 1980s it was a trip back down memory lane! Other than the false fire alarm at 7a.m. it was again a most enjoyable experience.

Although we found all the staff very good, three stood out to us. Daniela and Rob in the dining room and Grace ( if she is the 18 year old ) for her knowledge of gin and the right tonic to have with it.

I was happy to try out this hotel after its recent refurbishment. I can praise the staff and the food but not the general ambience or our room. The public rooms are beautifully decorated but unless you sat next to the log fire you were cold as there was no heating. This ruined the atmosphere.
Im sure we would have had a better room had we not been on a “deal”. The room was nicely decorated but sadly the facilities were not good. Monogrammed towels, but no wardrobe or any type of clothes hanging space, not even a hook on the back of the door to hang your coat up! A hairdryer, but no mirror in the room to use it with! Had we had a well equipped room, Im sure we would have booked again, without a deal. But this experience in a “ classic”room means our next stay in Ludlow will be at a dufferent hotel.

Beautiful historic building completely refurbished May 19. V good breakfast but only problem was sorting out the bill which got into a real mess. We queried it (charged twice for the same drinks) but it was only after we left the hotel but not Ludlow, that we returned again to finally agree we had been overcharged by £82 (2 couples). £30 dinner allowance had only been applied to 1 person and not all 4.
It was sorted amicably but we could easily have just paid up and left.
Great hotel- poor bill management.

Excellent Deal. Interesting hotel steeped in history nestling in the medieval town of Ludlow. Room was on the small side and a squeeze to make use of wardrobe but space available utilised to the max with quality furnishings bed linen tea/coffee making facilities and mini fridge, ironing bard etc. Tastefully decorated and luxury comfort, Food was excellent from Breakfast through to Afternoon tea the a la Carte menu in restaurant was fairly limited but food top class. Staff friendly whilst providing a highly polished professional service. Would highly recommend.

Just had a lovely weekend stay at The Feathers: the historical features of the hotel combined with its superb setting in a medieval market town with castle, bustling market, great shops and various bars and cafes was excellent. Very nice room and bed, superb shower and wonderful food met our high expectations, but it was the hospitality created by the wonderful team of staff that really made our stay perfect. Well done to you all especially the Manager Sharon and Receptionist Kerry, as well as Grace and Sam who were so attentive at every meal. Thank you all.

Having booked our afternoon tea for 3pm, we had to wait till nearer 4pm for it to be served. Our check in time should have been 2pm as per the Travelzoo advert, but it was much later at 3.30pm. We went to the restaurant for our allotted 7.30pm booked meal, to be told they were not ready for us. Fortunately we didn't have to wait long and they gave us our drinks complimentary. We really had a fantastic time with you and thanks are due to all the staff. The only comment I would make is that we were in room 124 and my wife really missed a mirror in the main room and also we found it strange that there was no hanging space for clothes. This didn't matter to us as we only had casual clothes but if we were going to a wedding we would want to hand dresses and suits somewhere.

The Hotel is full of character and has been refurbished to a good standard. However, after speaking to the hotel the day before our arrival the member of staff confirmed our room would have a king sized bed with a small lounge ( the second best room rate) our room was very small with just one chair and we would call it as described on their website as the classic cosy room ideal for 1 adult but could accommodate 2 persons. I queried this with the person I had spoken to and he insisted that he had not advised this over the phone, although I had noted our discussion down he wasn't interested in reading it.

Staff were exceptional and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble (even warming up a pain au chocolate that had gone cold). Food was some of the best we ever had - cooked to perfection, hot and fresh tasting. It was great to hear the barkeep asking me for feedback about my drink so he could look to continue to improve the cocktails he made. The hotel is obviously very old but there is a good balance between the wonderful antiquities around the property and the rooms which are very nicely furnished in a modern style.

The only slight negatives were:
parking is quite tight,

The room was nicely refurbished but the heating didn’t work, we had to ask for a stand alone heater, the shower was the latest design but no hot water on the second day of our stay and the tv didn’t work. We also had to get our room cards changed 3 times over our 2 day stay through mal function.
The service in the bar was appalling. We had afternoon tea included in our stay and we were told there was a 25 minute wait which we said was fine, but it arrived 50 minutes later. We waited nearly an hour for a drink despite 3 reminders. We were told there was an issue with staff which quite frankly was an understatement. On the second morning we had to wait nearly an hour for our cooked breakfast, the reason given was that each breakfast was cooked to order. All in all a very disappointing stay.

Pleased to see that the refurbishment hasn't spoiled any of the historic rooms, and it has brought some rooms into use as cosy lounges. Lots of conscientious staff and a proactive manager(?) keeping them on the ball. Some oddities, such as the very nice breakfast, but if you'd like, e.g., kippers instead of the "full English" it counts as a "Breakfast Enhancement": at £8.95 that's quite a supplement! Surely needs sorting out. Also, you are now charged £5 to park, which is reasonable, but a new thing.
It's a great building, and the bedrooms and bathrooms have been brought up to a high level, and you're in the midst of a fascinating, historic town. Highly recommended.

I thought the builders had skimped on some of the work in the expensive major refurbishment: doors not closing properly, no doorstops, poor carpentry and scratched paintwork. Finger plates to switches should be loosened before painting round. All reception and waiting staff get top marks for professionalism.
