lovely warm hotel. evening meal menu not brilliant - would benefit from Chef's Daily Special. Main grumble was booking system for swimming pool. Had to be booked in advance on daily basis instead of just being able to go when convenient.

Fabulous location and ideal for a short break. The check in wasn’t very welcoming but the other staff were lovely. Breakfast was delicious and unhurried. Refurbished lounge and dining room were beautiful and stylish although the swanky sofas weren’t terribly comfortable ! We loved the original artwork in the walls and photos showing the history of the hotel.

Fourth visit but this time the hotel was very tired. It was noisy at night and we missed a nights sleep. For the first time, it was not clean when we first entered our room. The staff are all wonderful. Shame we couldn’t get into the pool on one day. Location is fabulous. Breakfast is just great. Evening meal was variable depending what chef was on. Despite all this, we will be back again next year. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The room was really small, basic and tired. We weren't told, and it doesn't state on the website, that the pool/jacuzzi are 30 minute slots only bookable on the day. The afternoon slots were fully booked when we checked in at 3 which was disappointing as this was the main reason for going. The breakfast was inedible. Many other diners were sending theirs back also.

We specifically booked the hotel for the location and the panoramic view from the lounging area. Our plan was to spend time there relaxing. The whole lounging area was closed due to refurbishment. Apparently e-mails were sent to guests but not those who booked through Travelzoo. We'd upgraded to a sea view room. The room we'd been allocated was cold and dingy with a side sea view and from another window a view over a skip in the carpark. We seriously at this point said we'd go home and expect a refund. The hotel manager then located us another much better room. Although the hotel wasn't busy most of the rooms were closed off. We ate 3 times in the restaurant as per our booking. On two of the evenings the food was really disappointing especially as it wasn't cheap. Very small choice and on the first night in particular badly cooked. The restaurant manager said they wouldn't charge me but it had been paid for anyway! Food and drinks and service charge prices were quite a bit of a joke.

Beautiful scenery with a walk down to the beach from the hotel. Was made to feel very welcome. The rooms were clean and tidy. The service in the Restaurant was so poor. We had to send food back as it was not up to standard. The Dinner credit went very quickly as the prices were very expensive . They shut the main Restaurant/ Bar area off for the whole week and only told the day before we arrived so had to spend the evenings in our room as the other lounge that was available to sit in was so outdated.

We spent one night in a sea view room with stunning views. We used the swimming pool - small but adequate - you need to book a slot. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was good but we felt it needed a few extra touches to make it feel a little more special - bare tables didn’t help although I understand the hotel may be cutting cost/ water use by not having table cloths.

Our booking was messed up and they did not have any rooms left. We had received a confirmation just after booking. They upgraded us a Villa which was very nice. We ate in the restaurant each evening and had several problems with the food- not arriving. one night, cold another- sent back and still cold- changed order and it was then hot- another night had a pizza each/ only one arrived! On checking out the bill was incorrect as they had changed for dinners that were included.

Pillows and bed were too soft and difficult to get comfortable on. Bathroom toiletries were lovely (Elemis) and combined with soft water made showering a luxury experience with great lather and resulting soft skin and hair. We had to ask for a different room as whilst TZ stated the room with a garden view it was a concrete wall and the room was very small. The new room was much better but it was above a room that was being renovated and the banging and drilling spoilt the occasion. The room had a loose hot water tap and no hand rail in the shower.
Other Comments
Getting in and out of the shower was difficult with no hand rail. Told that guests had complained about having a hand rail which was a poor excuse. Sooner or later shower room without a hand rail to make getting in/out of the bath shower will result in an accident. Poor health and safety.
Other than room and shower it was a good stay and dinner, breakfast’s and bar was good.

Very good. great location for coast path walks. Prettiest backyard views!
Dining room and lounge are minimalist and unprepossing. perhaps easier for cleaning after meals.
Young staff ought to learn how to serve older, hard to hear visitors. To them deafness is an embarrassment. Most seem not to be interested in what they are selling (chef's meals) whether one's hearing is good or not. Setting is lovely i.e. terraced gardens, pool patio, tennis court, landscaping. Worth paying a bit extra for the sea view.

1. Room 101 - VERY noisy when window open - had to keep closed overnight - rather hot
2. Had to wait 45 mins for meal to come on 1st night.
3. On second night no wine-glasses available

The reason for the contradiction in my rating and the comments above is that we love the location and the staff worked very hard and were very accommodating. Management need to tackle the above service issues.

This lovely hotel is situated in a breathtaking, and rather privileged if somewhat remote, location on the west-facing coast of the Lizard in Cornwall, quite close to RNAS Culdrose. The local roads are quite something and are probably best enjoyed out of summer season ! Try not to bring a large SUV...

Our two-night stay was a wonderful opportunity to visit some well-known places, and we were very lucky to enjoy near perfect October sunshine on a Monday !
The room was quite satisfactory if slightly frustrating in some minor respects. If I was to draw up a shortlist, it would include things like jammed windows, overly warm duvet, poor mirror placement, lack of shelving in bathroom, and the obdurate refusal of the toilet seat to stay up for longer than 20 seconds (eventually !)
But these are minor quibbles. I really got the impression that this friendly hotel invests most of its resources into the truly excellent cuisine and accompanying service. Breakfast could be truly magical, especially if you managed to bag one of the window tables looking out upon that magical bay.
Just a word about that. You do need to be quite fit and limber to negotiate the stepped path all the way down to that stunning sandy cove. Take good care, folks !
All in all, a fabulous trip.

Hotel very tired. Cleanliness issues (probably lack of staff) our bathroom had mould on floor tiles and very unpleasant smell. One meal at dinner was poor. Lots of food debris on floor of the lovely area overlooking the sea. Still there next day. For us the music playing here spoilt the atmosphere. Muted music would have been fine. Needs money invested. Regretfully won't return. This was my third visit.

A lot at the hotel although all well behaved. Except on the last night when one owner had her dog sitting in an armchair in the bar. Yuk not acceptable as far as I am concerned. Do I want to be covered in dog hair etc if I sit in that chair when the dog vacates it. Brought it to the bar persons attention who said there was NO policy against this

Pleasant welcome from receptionist who checked us in & directed us to our room. There was no plan of the building or direction to the dining room, bar, lounge etc. Room was basic with small tv but beautiful view over the bay. It was pristine as was the bedding & towels were plentiful. Bed was very comfortable & plump pillows. Shower was over bath & powerful with a large sink you could Almost bath in! Head barman & staff serving were cheerful & attentive. Good choice for breakfast which was beautifully prepared on our first day & hot, 2nd day my husband repeated the Full English again as he had enjoyed it so much but he believes it was a different chef as it wasn’t the standard or cooked as nicely as the previous day. My poached eggs were cold & served on one slice of burnt sour dough! The dining staff & kitchen appeared to be under stress on our second morning & although no busier than the first morning, service was very slow. Our main Dinners were very nicely presented each evening & hot but we had a chocolate brownie with ice cream which I assumed the brownie would have been warmed but it was cold & very dry.

The tables in the Restaurant were very close together, particularly in the current environment, which made me feel uncomfortable.. The evening meal was excellent. It was difficult to get served in the lounge bar and also service was very slow throughout our stay. This may be due to the difficulty in staffing Hotels at the moment so we were relaxed about this element of our stay.

This was my third stay at the Polurrian. I believe a new owner took over this week. I came with a couple of friends, one of whom was a prize winner in your 15 days of Christmas competition. However, she had to explain who she was, nobody seemed to know exactly what she had won - with conflicting answers, and no "Congratulations" on her pillow, or little photo shoot for marketing purposes - all a bit odd and we feel a bit of a missed opportunity. I was disappointed with my bedroom but the receptionist kindly found me a sea view upgrade (extra money which was acceptable)
Other Comments
The hotel has lots of potential, the location is superb. The rooms/fittings are a little tired although always scrupulously clean and the beds are comfortable. Love the Elemis toiletries. The restaurant, sadly, is like sitting in a Little Chef and the food, generally, is poor - although the breakfasts are good. We were not impressed when we visited in December to be served by a young lad wearing scruffy ripped jeans - it may be the fashion but we felt not a good look for a 3 star hotel.
On our first visit back in the summer we attended the spa which was dark and stuffy and was not the relaxing spa experience we are used to. This time we spent most of the day at the Mullion Cove Spa which was beautiful. When we visited at Christmas we were hoping for trees, lights, garlands, baubles etc. These were in very short supply whilst we were there - one sad tree in the middle of the big lounge, a few garlands and I think one small tree in the restaurant - very disappointing - it looked as though nobody could be bothered - half the time the insignificant lights were not even on. However, we do like it there and will probably be back, maybe just not at Christmas and avoiding the spa.....

We have long been fans of the Polurrian Bay Hotel staying for mini breaks over the past 6 or 7 years. During that time various owners have come and gone, but the overall experience has always been very good.
Now the hotel has , I understand, a new owner and already we noticed many subtle improvements in so many aspects of the hotel and its surroundings.
Our sea facing room was spotlessly clean and welcomingly warm. I cannot fault it in any way and the reception staff were also welcoming and helpful.
Location of the hotel is wonderful of course, and we were blessed with superb weather which really puts the cream on top of an already tasty cake! After a super walk down on the very adjacent beach , we climbed back up to the hotel via the sloping footpath .....better than the steps when you are in your seventies...and sat and had a welcome glass of chilled Prosecco whilst enjoying the late afternoon sunshine beaming into the massive conservatory.
Later , we had an early dinner which was again very good with plenty of choice on the menu along with specials of the day plus another glass of bubbly.....why not when you are on holiday in such a beautiful spot ?
One feature of the hotel which makes it a winner for us is that it is dog friendly and there was a welcome bag in the room for our Border Collie, comprising blanket and treats. Small extra payment for the dog , but what makes it such a winner for us .
After an excellent nights sleep, we went down to breakfast and probably over indulged compared to moderate breakfast we normally eat. But my wifes smoked salmon and cream cheese was delicious and my full English breakfast was enough to satisfy me for the remainder of the day!
I've probably written too much , although I have to commend the sight of the gardeners obviously working hard to recover the beautiful gardens which , in recent times, looked a bit neglected, but are now starting to be licked back into shape. Will plan to visit again the Autumn and hopefully be able to enjoy the fruits of their labours.
Thanks to you all at the Polurrian and to the new owners, I wish you good luck and good fortune as I think you are making the hotel superb.

This hotel is set in lovely grounds with amazing views from the split-level café bar. It’s a very dog-friendly hotel and the majority of guests were accompanied by their dogs. The only areas dogs are not permitted were the restaurant and indoor pool/well-being centre. All meals can be taken either in the café/bar or in the restaurant. They even provided a welcome pack for the dogs with a blanket, bowls and treats. The rooms were not luxurious but everything was very clean and the beds very comfortable. The area is unspoilt and perfect for walking.
Other Comments
The hotel would not be suitable for those with walking difficulties as there are stairs and no lift.
Unfortunately we had a very bad experience on our last night as the restaurant served food which contained dairy when we had made it very clear that one member of our party was lactose intolerant. We had repeatedly checked the ingredients with the waiter but they failed very badly on this and it resulted in a ruined evening and illness. They also totally forgot one of the main meals at our table so that was also very poor service.

New owners will have different ideas. We are sure it will be for the best. As beautiful as the vista is, serving breakfasts in the downstairs lounge area is dangerous for guests having to carry ie bowls of cereal and milk plus yogurts down the wide open staircase.

Really enjoyed the break, the hotel has some very lovely areas and interior decor. We found it good value for money with the Travelzoo deal but had we been paying full price we would have expected a better room (the bedroom is very underwhelming when you consider the decor downstairs). Also the food was more often than not, “warm” rather than hot, and the cocktails weren’t good at all.

The bathrooms needed some maintenance.
Service at breakfast time was poor, due mainly not enough staff or organisation.

It is a lovely hotel in a beautiful spot. The staff were excellent. They are dog friendly, however there were a lot of dog's and they have access to all area's apart from the restaurant. However if you are eating elsewhere then so are the dog's. So not for us.

It exceeded our expectations, we expected a room without a sea view, but we were on the corner and the view was lovely. The hotel is very relaxed, however a very good standard we felt comfortable either dressing up or staying casual. The food was very good, exceptional breakfast.

We made a point of thanking the staff, they were all polite and friendly. The receptionist was great at her job, nothing was too much trouble.

Overall our experience was good but the dinner portions were very small. My husband and I are not
big eaters but found the meal fell short of expectations for a hotel of this calibre. For this reason we would not return as the evening meal was such a disappointment.

The first room we were allocated had a very strong smell of cleaning agents and overlooked the fitness centre. It was quite dark as there wasn’t much light coming through the window because it overlooked the fitness suite building and not the garden as described in the information provided. We were given another room , which was much better.
When we went to check out we were charged for wine we didn’t have at dinner. We both only drink soft drinks . Because we were not charged the full amount when we booked through Travel Zoo the hotel arranged for us to pay the balance when we checked out. This was not included on the initial bill so we had to point this omission out to the very helpful young girl at the desk. She then printed out the correct bill that included the balance.

We booked our stay at Polurrian on the Lizard to celebrate my birthday and were very impressed. The £10 upgrade for a sea view was definitely worth it and the view from our room was incredible. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and even gave me a free drink with our dinner as it was my birthday! Both our meals were lovely and good value for money. You can access a lovely walk along the cost from the hotel .I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone and we are hoping to go back shortly.

The hotel is in a stunning location with amazing views over the sea and along the coast in both directions - depending on the weather of course. Parking can e a bit of a challenge, depending on what time you arrive. The staff are all welcoming and friendly. Our room was at the back - a sea view room would have been preferred - but the bed and bedding was very comfortable, the room was warm and the bathroom newly fitted, spacious and spotless, with plenty of hot water. The Vista bar was very attractive (but busy on the Sunday night) and the restaurant was generally well managed. The drinks menu was imaginative but fairly pricey; some dishes on the food menu were better than others - herb crusted hake as fish of the day was underwhelming and overpriced but the chicken dish was good as was the burger with bacon and Cornish yarg (delicious!). Breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice, including vegan; the bacon was excellent, as was poached eggs (with lovely orange yolks) on avocado and sour dough toast. The swimming pool and health suite were a definition attraction. We stayed three nights but would have liked to have stayed longer, especially in the warmer months when we could have used the outdoor pool, sat on the terrace on in the garden with a drink or played tennis etc. It's not a cheap stay but I suspect many places are more expensive now.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and have enjoyed it every time. Unfortunately, I think due to shortage of staff, we had a longer wait for our food on a couple of occasions this time and the staff seemed to be rushing around a lot! Wasn't any staff at times in the reception either? Also I don't like having 10% added on to the bill automatically! I appreciate it's nice to have tips but I work in retail and we give a very personal service but we don't add on extra for this service!
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. Food was excellent and ambience ideal with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The slightly retro furnishings etc went well with the original building giving the more modern approach all round. Excellent!

The room was great. Newly renovated and clean. The bedding and bed was fantastic- the best part of the trip. We slept really well and you cant deny the views and location are fantastic for walking.
The dinning room and bar are beautifully decorated too and very 'insta friendly'
If the food was improved we would come back again and recommend to a friend.
I also have a tiny recommendation: there is poor lighting when getting ready in the evening. If there was a small lamp on the desk this would make the room 10/10.

The food. We shared a focaccia for starter and it was not focaccia, it was also stale. I regret not saying something at the time. My boyfriend had the burger, The chips were great but the burger was dry- not what you'd expect if you paid £18 for it; especially when you can get such high quality burgers for much less. I had the Pizza. The chef was great and catered to my dietary requirements swapping mozzarella for goats cheese but the tinned mushrooms were wet and let it down. The base was dense and under seasoned. Lots of potential but sadly not quite executed.
We were warned about the pool ceiling being broken but we didn't expect the pool to be so run down. The rest of the hotel is stunning and very clean but the pool needs attention. it was cold and I was upset to see a face mask in the pool filter and a used plaster on the side of the pool. I know this is the guests litter but I equally don't want to swim with these items floating about.
Cooked breakfast was small but quite standard. We didn't get any butter with the toast and couldn't find anyone to give us some, but the views at breakfast were great.

Where do I start? This was one of our best stays anywhere in the UK easily and abroad. We arrived at the Polurrian over the weekend ahead of our check in time, and the reception staff were so friendly and helpful, they gave me my parking pass and told us where to explore i.e. the private beach which is absolutely beautiful.
I have to commend the hospitality service at this hotel as they all went above and beyond and made our stay pleasant and enjoyable. From the reception staff, to the waiters, bar staff and cleaners, everyone working there was polite and always approaching us with a smile. Little touches made a huge difference, for example our stay included breakfast and dining. During dining, every night a ice chilled water bottle would be placed on our table which was really thoughtful.
I had pizza leftover one night and the waiter asked if I wanted it to be boxed up which was a thoughtful gesture. I would highly recommend that you opt for the breakfast and dinner here, as the food tasted nice especially the fish and chips.
The dining room is beautiful and the visitors were really friendly too which made our overall experience great. The staff and cleaners are always working tirelessly hard, the hotel was spotless and to a very high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. The pricing of the drinks at the bar was reasonable. We booked the sea view bedroom and the views are amazing and the room was beautifully decorated with all the amenities.
Although we had the weather on our side during our stay, it was cold outside but the hotel and bedroom was always warm and heated. This was one of our best stays ever and felt like we were abroad, also the bar/sky room is absolutely stunning, we spent hours there undisturbed. We also tried the vegetarian afternoon tea, and it was delicious.
Thank you to all the staff at the Polurrian, we will be coming back in future. 5/5

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel. We upgraded to a sea view room as we’ve done before but when we asked for a specific room which we have enjoyed on previous visits we were told that these rooms were unavailable as they are now classified as superior sea view rooms(!) Apart from this minor niggle we had a lovely overnight stay. The food was good, service friendly and the hotel warm and inviting.
