Why We Love This Hotel
- The Bull and Swan was once the headquarters of a gentlemen's drinking club: the Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. The members' antics were well known locally; today their portraits hang in the pub.
- Members were all given an animal nickname, such as Badger, Stag, and Greyhound. Each individually designed bedroom is named after one of the members.
- The AA calls the inn "delightful", awarding it four Gold Stars and a Rosette for its restaurant. The Gold Stars signify "outstanding levels of hospitality and service".
- The property sits on the edge of the Burghley Estate. Burghley House is closed until mid-March, but there are extensive grounds and enchanting gardens. The parkland (open year round) was laid out by Capability Brown.
- Stamford's high street is one of the loveliest in the UK, according to The Times. The town's independent shops, tranquil squares, and passageways are perfect for pottering.
- You could go for a walk along the shore of Rutland Water, which is around 15 minutes' drive away.
