Why We Love This Hotel

  • Dating back to 1794, the property was originally called the Uxbridge Arms hotel. It became the Royal Hotel after Princess Victoria's visit. Guglielmo Marconi stayed here while working on the wireless transmitting station nearby.
  • Wellness facilities include a gym, swimming pool, bubble pool, and sauna and steam room.
  • Caernarfon sits between the Menai Strait and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. It is a great base to explore Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the Llŷn, and Anglesey.
  • The "magnificent" (Lonely PlanetCaernarfon Castle is less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. It is where King Charles was appointed the Prince of Wales in 1969.

Excellent location for exploring Caernarfon and the surrounding area. Close to the castle and good range of restaurants. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Loved the spa, good breakfast, room was ok (but tired). The restaurant staff were just kids and had no obvious training (not their fault), moping about and not engaging unless spoken to. Which is a shame, management need to get a grip of how to train staff not just do the minimum.

Caernarfon is an interesting place to visit and I would recommend this hotel at the rate we got. I just wouldn't eat there...

We booked for 2 nights , on the Saturday my wife took ill and had to go to Gwynedd Hospital. We couldn't stay at the hotel because of this so I have emailed the hotel to ask if they would honour the one night's stay as a goodwill gesture but ive heard nothing.

Lovely old hotel, well situated and a great breakfast. The only slight problem were the inconsiderate other guests either side of/opposite our room who just let their door close noisily at all hours. When we've stayed in Premier Inns (for example), they have "soft-close" doors, but because the hotel is quite old, I guess they can't upgrade all of the room doors

Hotel very clean and nicely decorated. Restaurant food not so good. Overpriced and drinks expensive. No atmosphere in restaurant which was nearly empty.
