Parts of The Olde Bell date back to the 1130s when it welcomed visitors to the nearby Benedictine Priory. A sanctus bell, that signalled to the monks that an important visitor had arrived, still hangs over the door. Overnight stays are £85 for Travelzoo members, saving 47–50% on the direct price.

"Hurley is a lovely little village, close to the river Thames. The Olde Bell has its own car park and a large garden with good out door facilities for children and adults, in good weather. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a balcony."
The Olde Bell first opened its doors in 1135. This makes it possibly the oldest inn in England, and among the oldest in the world. Over the years it has hosted Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor, and Cary Grant.
The restaurant serves dishes made with produce grown in the inn's own kitchen garden.
Superior rooms are in the historic inn building or in the Malt House. Deluxe rooms are larger and are set within the Brick Barn. Luxury rooms are in the Main Inn or Malt House and each have a claw-foot bath tub.
The property is in the picturesque village of Hurley, close to the River Thames. "There isn't a prettier village on this graceful stretch of the Thames," says The Times.
Marlow is a charming town known for high-end restaurants and celebrity residents. It is an hour's walk away, most of it along the river.

Hurley is a lovely little village, close to the river Thames. The Olde Bell has its own car park and a large garden with good out door facilities for children and adults, in good weather. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a balcony.

Check in was very easy and we were given a delightful room in the old pub. Room was spotlessly clean and very quiet with tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided. We stayed on a hot day and the unexpected bonus of air conditioning was wonderful! Very unexpected in such an ancient building.

The Hotel and staff are lovely. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. Room was perfectly fine for a two night stay. Breakfast was just ‘ok’ and a bit of a wait for some of the hot food but didn’t spoil our stay. The location is perfect and a very short walk to the river. We will definitely go back!

The staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Only criticism was the meal we had on our first night. Menu quoted home made fish and chips. The fish was obviously straight out of the freezer together with the chips. Not much fish inside the crumb coating (not batter) Very poor value .

Had a lovely time there. Good location for riverside walks.
Dissapointed that twice the beer my husband ordered had run out. Also at breakfast, no orange juice, tea bags and milk, plus a meal we both ordered had run out too! The guy looking after the breakfast area was doing his best, but he should have had some help!

We really liked The Olde Bell. Arriving a little too early for check in, we decided to take a walk around the lovely village and along the banks of the Thames, stopping for a coffee at the fabulous village shop and cafe. Check in was quick and simple and we were allocated room 11 in the main building, there are further rooms across the road, the room overlooked the road, but it is not a busy road. The room was a good size, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom modern with everything working as it should, no recalcitrant shower controls, or backing up plugholes.
We stayed in for dinner and there was a fizz, fish and chips offer available, 2 small bottles of prosecco and 2 portions of fish and chips for £30. Though good value, it was disappointing, the fish reminded me of the frozen Findus (other brands are available) triangular pieces of fish I had as a child, though this one was larger, and the triple cooked chips were frozen. If I had paid full price for it I would be very disappointed.
We had a fantastic night's sleep, then breakfast was complete contrast to dinner. Good quality breakfast items with a wide variety, though not awful, the pastries were a little undercooked (doughy) and the powdered scrambled egg tasteless, but as there was so much to choose from a couple of slightly under par elements was not an issue.
Overall, we had a great stay at The Olde Bell and would stay again. The Travelzoo offer with the included bottle of fizz in the room made it great value. It is obvious the staff are very busy at peak times, but all were friendly and welcoming and helpful.

When we booked in at 2.30 our room was not ready so we were upgraded to luxury room. We were booked into a deluxe room originally and I would rather have had that room. The room we were given was ok but in the older part of the building where as the deluxe was in the newer modern part. On the positives the breakfast was very good and plenty of parking available. We knew that it was in a very quiet spot so that was no problem.
Over all good value for your price and would book with you again

We had a lovely large room in the block across the road from the main building. The bed was enormous and fairly comfortable and there was a large screen television on the wall. The usual tea and coffee making facilities we available in the room. The self service breakfast was good with all the usual hot food. Alternatives could also be ordered from a menu and cooked to order. All the staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
Other Comments
The rooms could do with some updating, in particular in the ensuite bathroom. The shower was not very powerful and the silicone sealant on the bottom edge of the shower screen was not good and let water through onto the floor. The ensuite itself was a good size.

We had a wonderful time! Our room was beautiful overlooking the grounds at the back, so was quiet and peaceful.
We had a bath in the bedroom, a huge shower in the bathroom, comfortable queen size bed, fluffy towels and lots of hot water.
We loved exploring all the buildings connected to the Olde Bell, the pub garden was a perfect place to enjoy drinks in the sunshine, it was relaxing with a singer ‘Katie’ entertaining with her amazing voice.
We enjoyed dinner al fresco too.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Other Comments
The only issue we felt let our experience down was the very poor breakfast.
The hotel was at full capacity due to a wedding fayre being held. Therefore it was a buffet breakfast which was awful- the scrambled egg was hard with lots of strange looking grey bits in it, there were no mushrooms, a couple of rashers of bacon and few beans. The toaster and coffee machine were not enough to cope with the capacity of guests. My husband and I had to eat in the bar area as the restaurant was full, but on closer inspection a lot of the tables were set for 4 with only 2 guests sitting at them- the tables were small and could have easily been divided. Such a shame, but we would still return to the Olde Bell as everything else was so lovely!

Lovely quaint village. Inn with huge amount of history. Beautiful beer gardens. Nice dining room but shabby and requires redecoration. Lovely breakfast selection. Bedrooms extremely disappointing. There was no headboard on our bed which meant leaning your head and shoulders on a peeling, painted wall. Large stain on the carpet which doesn’t appear to have ever attempted to be cleaned. Grout in between the shower tiles discoloured with mould/mildew/dirt residue which was completely unnecessary. This can easily be removed with a mould and mildew spray applied at the beginning of cleaning the room then rinsed off at the end. Toilet flush needs repair as wouldn’t flush the toilet paper adequately. The door and all the white fire doors leading to the room were extremely grubby with finger/hand prints and don’t appear to ever have been cleaned. Thus was room 28 in the Brick Barn

Our room (No. 5) was immediately above the kitchen and unfortunately our sleep was somewhat disturbed between 5.30 - 6 am by the the constant noise of filtration equipment coming into use. We also had an issue with the operation of the shower, which was instantly addressed. So customers need to be aware the noise element could well affect adjoining rooms. Thus said, we would absolutely re-visit, armed with the knowledge of where to avoid sleeping.

Most staff were kind, friendly and approachable. However, the first night we decided to have a meal there. The waiter obviously didn't listen to us for what we ordered. We asked for a bottle of still water and when it arrived he just said "here you go" and just walked off. 3 times certain things had to be corrected, but the problem was rectified very quickly. We decided not to have further evening meals there but the breakfast, that came with the deal was good for the 3 morning we were there.

I think the younger serving staff could be more attentive and respectful, but the more mature staff certainly made up for that. Perhaps some training in hospitality wouldn't go amiss, especially when you are paying guests.

We stayed for the weekend in this lovely historic building which is located in a quaint village with good access to the River Thames.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but there are some areas that need improvement. The hotel itself could do with some TLC as its decor/furnishing is quite tired looking. This also shows itself in the cleanliness of the hotel, while not dirty as such it could do with some improvement.
For instance we had a balcony attached to the room but weren’t able to sue it as the furniture was tatty and looked unsafe.
The staff were friendly and very hard working but the hotel would benefit from a few more staff particularly at busy times.
However overall it was good value, in a lovely location and they are very dog friendly which meant we were able to take our pup which was nice.

The menu was unimaginative and some food disappointing. Our chosen wine wasn't available and the replacement was just plonked on the table without ceremony. Our 'superior' room had a good bathroom except for a rusty and not-heating towel rail and there was an underlying industrial noise from the hotel's heating system. The room was large but sparsely furnished and decorated, contrasting with the quirky-abundance of post-impressionist and surrealist images in the dining room.

Most staff were pleasant and helpful except for the one wine waiter who plonked our unopened screw top bottle on the table without comment.

We were visiting our daughter nearby so a perfect location for us.
The hotel is situated in a delightful village and very quiet position with ply of parking.
The hotel appears to be being refurbished but the reception and entrance in the original old building could benefit from an update .
Our room had been redecorated and was a great size.
We had to get the heating sorted as rather cold and ask for tea coffee etc which hadn’t been replenished but very quickly rectified.
We ate at the hotel and the food was varied and well cooked. The breakfast was a bit hectic as busy and the eggs were cold and overcooked but other than that plenty of choice of cereal pastries fruit and yoghurt. They would benefit from more than one hot drinks machine as it became very busy with people queueing around the tables making it not very relaxing.
Overall a lovely short stay in a beautiful village with lots of walks along the Thames. Very good value.

Several, items that were described on Menu were not available as described (Lack of herb butter & Peppercorn Sauce) with not being informed prior to ordering! Picked up on serving hence lack of poor service too! Bed could do with a headboard to assist with support of pillows and fan not working in bathroom, though room was decorated nicely. The bar and additional seating area after having evening meal lacked any real atmosphere or cosiness that one would normally associate with an older property. Lastly, as there was a wedding being undertaken in the adjacent tithe barn, the sound properties of the room were severely lacking resulting in a headache and unease until midnight when admittedly the noise level vastly reduced.

The Prosecco that was provided as part of the package was left in the room - no ice bucket was provided.
The meal on the first night was not very good; my pork was Ok but the crackling was like leather and my wife's Caesar salad was tasteless.
Breakfasts were very disappointing. I have never had a good hot buffet style breakfast, and this was particularly bad. If a pub / hotel can't be bothered to serve a breakfast fresh from the kitchen it should not be providing hospitality at all.

Our room was not in the Hotel, it was in separate building which felt totally apart from the hotel and really was not a good feeling. I think this part of the Hotel was for Travel Zoo Bookings or last minute booking and pushed far away as possible!!!!! Also the room was very very hot, which was really uncomfortable! It was only 23 degrees outside and with very little ventilation and two poor fans, which one was supposed to be aircon unit. God knows what it would be like if it was hotter it would be totally unbearable! I actually upgraded to the Luxury Room, top room available and I felt this was not that Luxury room at all, very disappointed. we had to ask for large towel as only one was issued and our bottle Prosecco part of the deal was not in the room, I had to go back to the Hotel as there is no Phone in the room. Top it off, breakfast was very poor. breakfast is being served from 7-30 to 10-30 we got to breakfast at 10AM and there was very little left over on the cooked side, what was left was lukewarm at best! Even on the fresh fruit virtually nothing left and again what was left was not nice! Attention to detail could have been much much better and had to ask for various things. You could get some food cooked individually which took ages, also by 10-30 they just wanted us out of the dining area. If they had every we wanted and made food in good time we would have probably been finished by 10-30, just felt they were pushing us out....
if I was Travel Zoo I would think twice about using this hotel again for Future promotions. This was my first time I stayed away with my new partner and I wanted everything to be perfect, I can honestly say it did not meet up to expectations. There is so much more I could complain about but I think you have got the message!

Upon arrival, there was no one maning the reception, we had to go and find a member of staff, who didn't know how to book someone in. We had previously booked in for Sunday roast, but this was very expensive at £24 for just 1 course. Plus the roast pots were so hard, I couldn't eat them, the other veg was passable, but the gravy was so peppery, you couldn't taste much else. We then went off to our deluxe room. This was very large, albeit despite lots of windows, not much lighting. The bathroom was large & good shower. The bed was comfy {thank god}. However the room was extremely tired, really needed a fresh paint job. We were supposed to get bottle of prosecco in our room, it wasn't there, so we asked for it later & got that sorted. The room had not been cleaned very well at all, that was very disappointing, there was dust in so many places, it was soon obvious the cleaner had rushed. The shower gel only had half an inch of gel. It simply had not been replaced. We only just had enough for 2 night stay. The breakfast was not particularly hot, and not enough selection. Sad really, as this was supposed to be a special treat for my hubbie and I felt embarrassed. There was some friendly staff, but they do need to retrain, as most of them don't know their job roles, they all seemed to muck in on everything. But this is due to them being so understaffed, which is a shame for both staff and paying customers. There were other issues too, but I think you've got a few listed to think about before suggesting this place to others

Not really! We thought it felt grubby, run on a shoestring budget and very disorganised.

Standard of cleanliness in hotel, not enough staff, generally very disorganised and it also felt grubby.
First room we were shown had a terrible smell from drains, and the toilet was very dirty. So I was given key to a second room which smelled as if dogs had stayed in the room (i.e. not the deluxe room we paid for) and it was still in the process of being cleaned! The third room we were given was the bridal suite and even that felt grubby, with hairs on bathroom floor and on dressing table stool. Tea-tray was very basic with only two tiny pots of UHT milk for two people! Breakfast was very chaotic with one person working so items running out, about 8 tables not cleaned up so meant I had to ask for table to be cleaned so we could sit down. Items such as tea, coffee, milk, hot water, bread, plates, all running out and all customers having to ask for them to be replenished. Told on check-in that our room would not be cleaned as we were only staying two nights. This meant the tea tray was not replenished at all during our stay and we had to ask for toilet rolls on the second day.
We’ve previously been on a lot of deals with Travelzoo and they’ve all been excellent. This is the first time we’ve been very disappointed and so would not return to this hotel.

Room was lovely, in a beautiful old building. Great need, very clean everywhere in the hotel. The en suite needs an extra towel rail and definitely some form of frosted glass or meet curtain. The food offering compared unfavourably with the one from the pub a couple of hundred metres down the road, both in terms of price and quality. Service in the restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast, was a bit below par. Location was very good.

We had breakfast included and there was plenty of hot food available in the buffet section with a choice of other hot plates. The only criticism was that the continental breakfast - the content of which looked lovely - was not covered and there were quite a few flies on the cheese, ham and croissants. Other people noticed too and consequently no one ate it. Such a shame.

When you report overflowing shower trays (that as a builder you know it hasn't just happened so they obviously haven't acted on previous reports as it was literally flowing out onto the bathroom floor and the raised floorboards showed the signs of an ongoing problem), but worst of all in my eyes is when you report an electrical fault on the one and only bedside lamp which is an easy remedy, no one can be bothered to act is frustrating especially when as an electrical fault it falls into a possible fire risk. Not a problem if the wall switch for the main lights wasn't 6' away from the bed, for convenience it's annoying when you have to bang the plug or wiggle a cable to get the lamp to work. A little thing but still a risk and like I said, a simple fix, despite there being a PAT test sticker on the plug.
On the bright side waiter Terry was a great ambassador for the hotel and we enjoyed our chats.
Plenty of free parking at the hotel, breakfast was okay, freshly cooked on day one, buffet style the following morning. Drinks were fairly expensive £29 for 2 large wine's but I suppose you are in Henley on Thames.
Bed was very comfortable, windows all need adjusting/ new hinges, not sure what it'll be like on a cold day?
Would we return, probably not.

Nice place with a lovely garden, we had a clean and spacious room, the staff were generally pleasant and very helpful.
The full English breakfast is buffet and you have to order eggs other than scrambled, but quite good.
Main meals food was good, although the menu was not quite what I would call expansive.

One big disappointment, I would add, not the hotel's fault.
Travelzoo's description includes the lovely Thameside walk to Marlow, we were very much looking forward to this on the Sunday, it was one of the main reasons for choosing this weekend break.
Sadly it couldn't happen, barely 15 minutes along the riverside path from Hurley, we were greeted with a sign stating: "Temple Bridge is closed. No riverside access to Marlow". The diversion is a far cry from a riverside walk.
It turns out the bridge has been closed indefinitely since May 2023.
Plenty of time for Travelzoo to update the misleading description.

Very nice location but room was very tired and could do with a complete upgrade.
Had a meal on the first evening which was very expensive and basic. Also we were overcharged.
It's a great shame because the location was so nice and so much more could have been done to create a much better experience.

Beautiful village and beautiful hotel, food good and staff hard working, we stayed on room 3 which was the only downside of being above the kitchen so over powering smell of food and load drone of their fans which made the room vibrate, this was dealt with very kindly by the staff and an offer of room there if we wanted

We had a lovely room, with a rolltop bath, comfortable kingsize bed and very spacious. The room was a little bit tired around the edges, particularly in the ensuite, but well decorated with quality furnishings. We had a buffet breakfast the first morning and table service on the second, both very good quality, tasty food. The evening meals were a little expensive and the quality of the food wasn't as good the second night. However, the lunchtime specials were exceptional in terms of quality and very reasonable prices. Altogether a lovely quirky place to stay, watch out for the low doorways and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay. The receptionist Ruve was lovely very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable very well decorated , and cosy, the only downside was the room was above what sounded like an extractor fan and this kept us awake as it was going all night. We had a good lunch in the bar and a snack in the evening. We would definitely return to the hotel.

Breakfast was adequate but not the best we have had at other hotels in the Travelzoo offers .

We have been before after purchasing a great deal via Travelzoo. Unfortuanately this time was not as good. For the amount of guest they didnt have enough staff. I ordered pancakes for breakfast but never got them as the waiter forgot to order them, mind you, he was rushed off his feet. No plates at the cold buffet, and hot buffet was barely warm. There was a wedding, which they clearly knew, so should have put on more staff. Shame because they will lose custom because of this. unsure of our return😌

We checked in on Tuesday 25th March at around 4pm and after quite a long wait at Reception were allocated Room 28. When we checked around the Room we found that the telephone was dead; one of the bedside lamps was'nt working and the toilet pan was leaking at the base. We reported this straightaway and the Duty Manager came to the room to check the problems. He found a standby bedside lamp and provided a bath mat to put in front of the toilet pan and said he would arrange for the maintenance man to check out the problems the following day (Wednesday 26/03). We were out all day and went we checked back into our Room nothing had been fixed and worse still the Room had'nt ben serviced. When we complained at Reception about the Room not having been serviced we were told that we should have been advised when we first checked in of the Hotel policy that unless you ask for the Room to be serviced it will not happen - clearly we were not informed !! Also none of the problem noted by the Duty Manager the previous day had been dealt with.
To compound our great disappointment, on the first night we had booked a meal in the restaurant at 18.30hrs. - we sat at our table for about 30 minutes before anyone took a drinks order or gave us menus to choose from - our first course was served almost 1 hour after we had sat down at our table. To make matters worse, on the second night we booked a meal for 18.00hrs. - the service was much better as well as the food but when we had finished we were asked to settle the bill having expected to do so when we checked out on Thursday morning particularly since we were not asked to settle our meal bill the previous evening !! All in all a very disappointing experience !!
We are seriously considering writing to Best Western Hotels asking what they think about our unfortunate experience staying at The Olde Bell.

The Olde Bell is a lovely old pub ‘ hotel. The staff are lovely. However we had a few issues. French sparkling wine given instead of Prosecco. On the website it states Noble toiletries but this is not the case .Items on the dinner menu not served as described ie honey carrots served plain. Silly little things but these things do matter. Overall we ( 2 couples ) had a lovely time.

Poor service at bar; absent barman, didn’t have drinks we wanted & £22 for g&t & beer; no one to take breakfast order. No one on reception when we arrived. Public areas need a good clean. On good side, lovely location & interesting history. Good walks nearby & nice towns to explore. Luxury Room was small with windy stairs up to bedroom. Comfortable bed, all clean & lovely bathroom.

A nice hotel but service on the whole was poor. Very expensive bar prices. Didn’t eat dinner in restaurant . Breakfast was ok, though cooked food like bacon & scrambled eggs out in covered hot dishes was cold. Would I stay here again? I doubt it.

Spacious rooms , good linen and clean, this is potentially an excellent venue , but more staff required in service. I would stay again if these things were changed

The room needed attention on arrival , but spacious and clean, not enough staff for evening meal, 2 staff also covering the bar area, so very long wait for food and reduced menu on both days. Breakfast was excellent with different staff, it ran a lot smoother and was of a good standard which saved the overall opinion of this hotel , strangely we have table service on day one and buffet day 2?

We paid for an update to a de luxe room but it was hardly that. No headboard, a horrible red folding desk lamp with an orange extension lead and an ill fitting quilt and cover on the bed. Why We Love This Deal
