Why We Love This Hotel

  • Parts of the property date back to the 1130s. This makes The Olde Bell possibly the oldest inn in the UK, and among the oldest in the world. Its sanctus bell, which signalled to the monks that an important visitor had arrived, still hangs over the door.
  • The restaurant serves dishes made with produce grown in the inn's own kitchen garden.
  • Superior rooms are in the historic inn building or in the Malt House. Deluxe rooms are larger and are set within the Brick Barn. Luxury rooms in the Main Inn or Malt House and each have a claw-foot bath tub.
  • The inn's famous former guests include Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Cary Grant.
  • The inn is in the picturesque village of Hurley, close to the River Thames—"there isn’t a prettier village on this graceful stretch of the Thames," says The Times.
  • You can follow the riverside path to Marlow, a charming town known for its high-end restaurants and celebrity residents.

Got there to find no parking available as all spaces taken up by non-residents attending Xmas party there. Tried to get some lunch but kitchen closed early due to same party. Also restaurant closed that evening as chef not available but to Xmas party.

Beautiful old building formally part of a Priory. Staff were very friendly, food was very good and the waiter in the evenings was very patient while I explained my food intolerances and served up exactly what I could eat. I should imagine the grounds would look lovely in the Spring and Summer.

This hotel is run mainly for it's functions and events in the tithe barn not regular hotel guests. There is little atmosphere in the bar, where the choice of beer totalled one. We found the snug comfortable though since they could at least turn off the incessant 'musak' there. Food was uninspiring and the young staff tried their best but obviously lacked training and direction. Not up to usual Travelzoo standards.

Unfortunately this fell below the expected Travelzoo standard.

Very pleased with our stay. However disappointed with the service at dinner - a very long wait for dessert.

We were a group of adults who booked rooms and a table in the restaurant. Check-in was easy and informative. The room was spacious and clean. The Bed was incredibly comfortable. We ate in the restaurant. The service was efficient and friendly and the food was delicious with generous portions. We had a good night's sleep and breakfast was equally good with plenty of choice including cereals, cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, full English breakfast and toast. It was self-service but excellently cooked and presented. We had a fantastic stay and will return at some time.
