Why We Love This Deal

Parts of The Olde Bell date back to the 1130s when it welcomed visitors to the nearby Benedictine Priory. A sanctus bell, that signalled to the monks that an important visitor had arrived, still hangs over the door. Overnight stays are £85 for Travelzoo members, saving 47–48% on the direct price.

Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Olde Bell first opened its doors in 1135. This makes it possibly the oldest inn in England, and among the oldest in the world. Over the years it has hosted Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor, and Cary Grant.
  • The restaurant serves dishes made with produce grown in the inn's own kitchen garden.
  • Superior rooms are in the historic inn building or in the Malt House. Deluxe rooms are larger and are set within the Brick Barn. Luxury rooms are in the Main Inn or Malt House and each have a claw-foot bath tub.
  • The property is in the picturesque village of Hurley, close to the River Thames. "There isn't a prettier village on this graceful stretch of the Thames," says The Times.
  • Marlow is a charming town known for high-end restaurants and celebrity residents. It is an hour's walk away, most of it along the river.

The staff. Very helpful. The room was well appointed and was more like what I was expecting. Each one appeared to be individual.

Didn't live up to the expectation. 50% my fault. Was looking for 4 star, booked 3 star. Bought from the pictures, but found it to be rather plainer in the real. A group of the clientelle were more noisy than ws reasonable, but that is a personal thing. Was disappointed the use of swear words was tolerated.

Old Inn. In need of a Face lift and general maintenance. Beautifull Village Nice Walks Breakfast very good. The other food was generally OK. But not Great Value.

Unfortunately the pub was very busy in the restaurant and most of the food options were sold out. The food was terrible but the staff recognised that and didn’t charge us for one meal.

We have been to this hotel earlier in the year and liked it so much we were pleased to return. Our large room was beautiful with oak beams, the bed was comfortable and we both slept well. There was a bath which was great as we prefer this to a shower, and there was plenty of hot water, towels and complimentary toiletries. We had a problem with our kettle during our stay and this was replaced quickly. We had a super time and said we will be back!
Other Comments
We ate in the restaurant on our first night and enjoyed the beef burger and fish and chips which was served hot. We found the drinks from the bar to be very expensive. Breakfast was a bit of a mixed bag; the cold selection was lovely- fresh fruit salad, smoked salmon and mackerel, Brie and a selection of cereals. The hot buffet, although plentiful, had a strange taste. Almost like we could taste the washing up liquid the Bain Marie’s had been washed in. There was only one toaster and one, very inefficient coffee machine which really let down the breakfast. There were far too many guests for this to be adequate. All this being said- every staff member we came into contact with were lovely and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. They are a credit to the Olde Bell! Please do sort out the toaster and coffee machine out In time for our next visit :)

We asked to change our room as the first smelt a little damp and musty. The second room was good.

Location was great.
Other Comments
No headboard on bed, poorly ventilated due to limited opening of windows made the room incredibly hot I think we were below some kind of boiler room don’t book the deluxe rooms. The old property with the more expensive rooms is very tired, stained carpets needs a lot of work to make it feel comfortable.
