Why We Love This Hotel

  • Surrounded by 30 acres of private garden and woods, the ruins of the 13th-century Dolbadarn Castle lie within the grounds of the Royal Victoria Hotel too. The castle was built by Llywelyn the Great using local slate.
  • Food at the hotel is "homely and tasty". Take in views of the garden and the lake from the Padarn Restaurant in the first-floor conservatory. The cosy Eryri Bar & Lounge serves pub favourites and has a "lively atmosphere" (The Daily Telegraph).
  • The village of Llanberis is a short stroll from the hotel and the trailhead of the 8-kilometre circular walk around Lake Padarn is five minutes' drive (or a 15-minute walk) from the hotel.
  • The Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the village of Betws-y-Coed are around 30 minutes' drive away.
  • Portmeirion—an Italian-style village that was the backdrop for the 1960's cult classic series, The Prisoner—is around 50 minutes' drive from the hotel.

The room was comfortable and everything worked, and it was spotlessly clean. The hotel is literally across the road from the station for the mountain railway. On the downside coach parties arrived after our first night's stay. The bar was packed in the evening with a queue a mile long - we gave up trying to get served in the end. Likewise the breakfast experience was also impacted and was an absolute shambles - everything had run out, the coffee machine was broken, no plates, queues, dirty tables... totally different from our first morning.

Breakfast sausages resembled the type you get from the chippy.

Helpful and pleasant staff. Bedrooms adequate but with thin walls meaning you could often be disturbed by neighbouring guests. Bathroom a little cramped but with everything you need. Didn't eat in the restaurant but bar food was good.

A great location for exploring Snowdonia and Anglesey. Obviously a destination for coach parties

The breakfast was of a good choice. Plenty of it.
Other Comments
This is not our first visit. The reception area is not inviting at all. The hotel is looking very tired and in a need of a make over. The corridors need decorating. The bedroom is a good size but again in need of decorating. This hotel is ideal for walkers to Snowdon, but not for a relaxing break, as there are no lounge areas with sofas. The bar area is the best decorated space, but not for comfort.

Good location. Things to do in spite of weather. Beautiful scenery. Good access to many interesting places.
Other Comments
Early evening ambience spoilt by rowdy gang in bar. Bar food a little disappointing. Would have preferred lighter options.

The staff were very nice and friendly
Other Comments
The room was very dated and the bathroom needed a total makeover with mold around the bath and shower very old and dated , there was piles of dust around the bed and the tv remote was filthy

Really enjoyed it every thing was great. Drinks expensive in the bar.
Other Comments
Although the drinks at the bar were very expensive and it could perhaps do with some background music playing, as in the dining rooms, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you.
