"We recently visited The Royal Victoria Hotel and enjoyed every minute. Our room was warm, cosy and spotlessly clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The scenery is spectacular in that area, even in winter. We would highly recommend."
The property is surrounded by 30 acres of private garden and woods. The ruins of the 13th-century Dolbadarn Castle lie within the grounds. The castle was built by Llywelyn the Great using local slate.
Food at the hotel is "homely and tasty". Take in views of the lake from the Padarn Restaurant. Eryri Bar & Lounge serves pub favourites and has a "lively atmosphere" (The Daily Telegraph).
Llanberis is a short stroll from the hotel. The trailhead of the circular walk around Lake Padarn is five minutes' drive away.
The Anglesey National Landscape and Betws-y-Coed village are 30 minutes' drive away.
Portmeirion is an Italian-style village that was the backdrop for the 1960s' cult classic series, The Prisoner. It is 50 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Excellent value! Stayed on the 3rd floor - room quite small but very comfy bed, tea/coffee, wardrobe with iron and board, hairdryer. Plenty of hot water and good towels. Included breakfast which was a buffet and set us up for the day. An old hotel with plenty of character. Not sure it would be such good value at full price.
Other Comments
We had an evening meal in the restaurant - pie and mash with veg ( from a frozen pack) but pie was nice £20 . Several places to eat in nearby village - 5 minute walk.

Food was good with plenty of options for breakfast, dinner menu was good, although the same on both nights. Would certainly stop again and recommend.

It was a great value 3 days , great breakfast .
The inside of the window frames ( room 216 ) could do with a clean to be honest. Not any issue for us but I’m sure it could be for others so better you know ,

We checked in with a friendly member of staff. A bit of faff getting to our room 2 lifts and long corridors. Our room was of a good size, nice & clean and airy. The usual tea making facility was in place. Some areas of the hotel are tired, however there seems to be a renovating plan in operation. The gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was very good with many choices and as much as you could eat.

Ideal situation for the train station which was opposite to take you to summit of Mount Snowdon. Also easy to get to Caernafon and Bangor. Well placed hotel.

Large hotel but not over busy. Staff friendly and helpful. Didn't realise restaurant not open on Sundays and Mondays at this time of year but the bar food was very acceptable. Room in the annexe was pleasant and a reasonable size.
Other Comments
In the height of the season it may be rather crowded. The annexe windows do not open very wide so it did get rather hot (but unseasonably warm anyway). Energy saving arrangement meant en-suite bathroom lights went on when you entered. This was a bit of a nuisance when using the loo during night time.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was very good with a comfy bed, a lovely view from our window. The shower was very powerful and we enjoyed a nice soak in the bath after our climb up Snowdon. The food was good in the bar, we didn't go to the restaurant, the breakfast was good too and lots of choice, the porridge being particularly tasty! The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and especially for its beautiful location.
Other Comments
The only thing that was disappointing was that there was no nice decaf coffee at breakfast. I'm allergic to caffeine! Also at the entrance to the hotel there was no ramp in which to transport suitcases. However, we had an altogether fantastic stay!

The two night stayed was good but got off to a bad start. My booking said the room was in the main hotel with courtyard or woodland views and a queen-sized bed. The room offered (218) was very small, with a normal double bed. The only things visible from the window were a wall of part of the hotel and a banking topped by a rundown wooden building over which you could just see the upper part of some trees. When I complained to reception, the only alternative they initially offered was a room in the annex, accessible via a concrete stairway from the carpark, which was obviously totally unacceptable. They then said that another room (203) could be made available at a premium of 20 pounds per night. As there appeared to be no other option, I reluctantly accepted the offer, although I consider the problem to be entirely of the hotel's own making.
Other Comments
The remaining part of the stay was very good. I particularly liked the arrangement at breakfast where the hot food was served at the counter by a very pleasant lady and everything looked freshly cooked rather than some hot buffets where the food can look stale.food in the bar at night was also excellent.

The train to take visitors up Snowdon was not open until 22.03.25 so the visit could have been better as the hotel is perfectly placed for catching the train. Just for future travellers reference. This is no reflection on the hotel which was lovely and offered great food in it's two restaurants.

Hotel is a bit dated (stains on carpets/flaking paint) needs a bit of tlc.
