The Falcon Hotel is a 16th-century coaching inn that overlooks Uppingham's Market Place, "with smart rooms and a quality restaurant" (The Daily Telegraph).
The hotel's Main Lounge and oak-panelled Tap Bar have a relaxed atmosphere, whilst the Front Restaurant offers a more intimate fine-dining experience with views overlooking the main square.
Rutland may be the smallest county in England but lives up to its motto: Multum in Parvo—much in little. Expect picturesque English villages, with independent shops, antique stores, local art galleries, and country pubs.
Oakham is less than 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The great hall of Oakham Castle is considered one of Britain’s finest examples of Norman architecture.
The Rutland Water Nature Reserve—an internationally renowned sanctuary and home to more than 25,000 waterfowl—is around 10 minutes away by car.
There are more than 23 miles of traffic-free cycleways that encircle Rutland Water. Hire bicycles and electric bikes from Rutland Cycling Whitwell, 15 minutes' drive from the hotel.

1st off we had to cancel original booking but they did offer to carry it forward which we did by quite a few months.
Next, staff were really kind and helpful, in all aspects. Breakfast was table service and food excellent.
Parking, we were lucky to find a spot, it is limited. But, there is a huge car park available again, at back of hotel. Plus when I think on it there is also a very useful small store behind the hotel attached to fuelling station.
Village itself is beautiful, with quite a history to it. Do walk around the back of the church there, lovely views. Uppingham Private School also has a history, advise reading it up.
Wife & I are pub people and there's a number to choose from in the village and beyond. But do check out the wood framed bar in the Falcon, quite something.
Rutland itself is a stunning county, we live in beautiful Wiltshire and think that Rutland is similar. Whilst in Uppingham try visiting Oakham, and a little further is the beautiful town of Stamford, Lincs.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The Travelzoo deal was good value for money but thought the general bar and restaurant prices were expensive. Even so we would recommend the hotel and revisit on a similar deal.

All the staff were very welcoming and helpful and we were perfectly happy with the hotel. Some might say it is a little old fashioned, but that's being picky. The town of Uppingham and the surrounding area were a revelation and we are very grateful to Travelzoo for giving us the opportunity to explore the beautiful county of Rutland.

Very welcoming and a really good accessible room.
The only negative was the proximity of other guests sat in the lounge whilst we were eating dinner. They were far too close for comfort and we were only separated by a metal balustrade. This meant someone with a particularly loud voice made our eating experience less than good.

Very welcoming and pleasant employees. Good food. Service very friendly and efficient. The location is a lovely little town. The hotel is nicely decorated and our room cosy, comfortable and clean. The room amenities are very good as well with quality produce. General ambiance is positive and warm. The ‘ Travelzoo’ deal is great value. We only did one night and it was a shame to leave so soon. Very good full English as well, nicely cooked and not greasy- just the job. We really liked ‘The Falcon’.

The bathroom in the executive room was marble and sparking clean and it had a good bath.the sink needs a shelf to put you’re toiletry bag on to stop it getting wet.the bathroom also has a shower very nice

The bedroom had a filthy headboard that they tried to hide with pillows.it is material and needs cleaning with a paste of bicarbonate of soda and a bowl of warm water and soft cloth.

The Falcon Hotel is well run with particularly friendly staff. Excellent food and beers/wines on offer. A 20 minute warning to cook your full English breakfast is a clue to it being freshly cooked.

Excellent offer from travel zoo. From the moment we arrived we were impressed. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Lovely room, although a safe would have been a good option in the room too. Lovely clean and fresh. Breakfast was delicious and all staff helpful and appeared very happy in their roles. Lots of little shops to visit in the area and short drive to English heritage options also.

The only issue we had was that hot food did not arrive at the table hot enough and once at diner had to be return and reserved at which time it was piping hot. which proves they can do it! when they try.

The Falcon is a wonderful calm and welcoming hotel in a beautiful little town. A little piece of 'time forgotten'.
We had a lovely 2 nights there in glorious weather, most of it sitting in their spectacular garden.
The only fly in the ointment was that 1 of the main meals at dinner were, on both evenings, not what you'd expect from such a great hotel. One lamb burger was so burnt that there was a layer of crusty soot on it and was not edible and then a chicken dish was extremely tough and dried up. It may be that on the second occasion it was the supplier and not the chef.
The staff were extremely apologetic and recompense was quickly offered and accepted.
It must be said that the breakfasts and the sandwiches were very good.
All the staff were helpful, competent and pleasant and Lily is the outstanding manageress.
Would we try this hotel again and expect that the food issues have been ironed out? Would we go back? Yes, we loved it - we've already booked!
