The food was really quite bad, both dinner and breakfast. We were amazed that such a place could get the food so wrong, it was very much like they didn't care what people thought. The servers were brilliant, very apologetic and agreed with us that the food wasn't nearly good enough. They knocked the cost of the starters off our bill but that was pointless as we had bought a deal that more or less covered the cost of food, so really we were left out of pocket. The bar prices were horrendous too, over £18 for a large glass of wine and pint of ale!

Decor could do with an upgrade, toilet seat wouldn’t stay up (had to hold with my knee), tele really hard to operate…had to try really hard pressing buttons & quite a few ‘usual’ favourite free view channels like Quest etc missing..
Shower was ‘tight’. I’m 6ft & 13 stone so not over weight but it was a bit awkward. Also no shelf in there which was very inconvenient.
Worst thing for us was when we went to dinner (which was included in the deal-£30 each), on top of the meal, as extras we had a pint of black sheep beer,a small lemonade & a portion of chips.
For that (after the £60 was allowed for..) we had to pay £25.69.
We couldn’t figure out how a beer, lemonade & chips came to that amount.
Upon looking at the bill we realised we had been charged £7.79 service charge for the whole bill, including the £60 that was included in the deal.
We actually had £5 ready to give as a tip, but withdrew that.
People in restaurants work hard, but we should be able to decide if a tip/service charge is given. Not the hotel.
Had this before, & we’re getting really sick of it.
We didn’t say anything as didn’t want to ruin our holiday & wouldn’t have said anything if you hadn’t asked.
Would like to reiterate that the staff were were helpful.

Our room was on the 5th floor and only had a skylight so there was no view - it also had 3 steps down from bedroom to bathroom which was a challenge during the night! Apart from that it was clean and fairly roomy. Other area of the hotel were nice to sit in and we had a lovely view over the canal from our table in the restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed our stay again, paid a little extra to the Skipton hotel to have a canal side room. Reception staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are rather dated but suits us as we like having the bath & shower facility. I believe the rooms are gradually being refurbished. We thought prices of the meal & drinks on the 1st night (even with the offer of 30% off food) were a lot more expensive than previous stays, also drinks from the bar were dearer than in Skipton.
We will stay again as like the location & on the whole the hotel.

The evening meal was disappointing. My husband had to send the chicken dish back twice as overcooked and in the end he didn’t eat. The drinks were very expensive. We had a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and then a friend with us bought another bottle. It was £42. This wasn’t the one listed , it was the same as the complimentary one which would have been a cheaper one.we looked at it was £10 interior! A glass of wine was £12.50.the room was tired and the headboard all patchy. No one came to our room to see if we wanted anything until 4pm by thus time we had washed out the used tea cups ourselves. The price was good but very disappointing all in all.

The service for the evening meal. We booked our table for 7.45 pm. The waitress took our order. We ordered soup and garlic mushrooms. My wife ordered fish and chips as a main course; I asked for steak and ale pie but was told that they had run out of it, so I asked for tarragon chicken. My wife’s soup was cold (we sent it back), but the replacement soup was tolerably warm. My mushrooms were fine. We then waited and waited for our mains but it was obvious they had forgotten about them.
We complained and finally got them about 9pm. My chicken was like shoe leather so I sent it back and ordered fish and chips instead. The chips tasted bitter, so I ate what I could of the fish. We “ passed “ on the sweet - we were fed up. We were never offered anything in compensation for what was a bad end to a wedding anniversary night away. We certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is clearly a very popular hotel for group.events.
Very difficult to complain as we had such an excellent deal but individuals staying have to fit in re available meal times. Breakfast was hectic. Sheer volume of people in the dining meant staff were rushing round doing their best.....constantly refilling buffet food/ drinks. The welcome was good, the room was large and comfortable although looking a little tired. It had a large shower, although I always like a bath, but it was an offer so cannot expect the best rooms. The rooms at the front can be a little noisy with traffic and guests chatting on the bar balcony below. I liked the fact the room had a portable radiator and fan!

The restaurant, there were always 3 people serving but they had to book people in, take money from those leaving who needed to pay, take orders, serve food and clear tables. They all worked hard but customer service was poor. I looked at the online menu before I went down and chose a starter, main and dessert, only to find the menu had changed. My second choice of main, vegetarian burger had gone, despite beef and chicken ones being available. The main I had was good but the soup was poor. I did not stay for dessert. The couple on the next table said, very wise, we have been waiting 10 mins for the dessert menu. Breakfast had lots of choice, but I ordered a veggie sausage and my husband a poached egg, both arrived on the same plate; as the waitress was also dealing with 2 other tables I got myself a plate. There was a wide range of choices and while these were ok, they weren't marvellous e.g poached egg over cooked and cold toast. Despite me telling two members of staff about the menu online, it has still not been changed! One member of staff enquired what had I wanted, when I told her she said, we haven't had that menu for weeks!

Friendly welcome, room was ok but in need of a paint and headboard was scuffed. Bathroom was excellent with nice toiletries. Prosecco (included in deal) was not very chilled and there was no fridge in room so not as enjoyable as it could have been. Restaurant evening service was excellent and food was delicious. Bar was very expensive. Breakfast was just ok, staff rushing around to clear conservatory tables didn’t elude to a relaxing experience.

Enjoyed our stay. Due to staff sickness we had to wait 2hours to get into our room, which was understandable. Could walk into Skipton via the tow path, and in case of bad weather, the bus service stopping outside the hotel offered an excellent service.
It was good to park easily at the hotel which was free.
Breakfast was brilliant, the evening meal was good but the braising steak was a small helping.

Overall we had a good time. Many aspects of the hotel were good, in particular the location, car parking, dining and bar. However, its housekeeping was not good. In particular:
1 we arrived at 4:15pm [check in being from 4pm ] but no room was available for almost 2 hours because the housekeeping had not been done despite check out being at 10 am. We were by no means the only people to experience this.
2 our room was not serviced on the second day of our 2 day stay until 6:50 pm when we were showering and getting changed for dinner and so we told the member of staff not to bother. The room should have been serviced much earlier in the day while we were out.

All the staff, apart from the General Manager, were very professional, friendly.
Other Comments
General Manager, James, was very rude. We were early so initially didn't mind waiting. At 3.30pm could see other quests checking in. When I went back to reception was told rooms on 3rd and 4th floors were still being cleaned. At 3.55 went back to reception, this was my first contact with the General Manager, he said he was short staffed (not my problem) and check in wasn't until 4. He called me back to reception at 4.15 and James, a young receptionist, began my check in, I heard the General Manager telling him to change the room to 325. My partner and I got the lift to the 3rd floor but couldn't find the room until we say I sigh saying it was on the 2nd floor. So back in the lift and down a floor, once again after walking the corridors we came across 2 flights of stairs that led to room 325. On entering the room we both looked at each other and said what! The room was very small, the windows were quite small and high up, meaning the canal view wasn't apparent to me. The plastic on the headboard was peeling away, very unsightly. I phoned reception and the General Manager said he would meet us by the lift, so back down all the stairs with all our luggage. When in the lift to the 4th floor I told the manager I was totally disgusted to be allocated this room to which he said "well I didn't check you in and you're not in it now"!!! We then entered room 406 which is the type of room we have had before, except for one stay when we had a superior canal side room, the time now was 4.45, an hour behind all the quests checked into rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor, so much for paying extra to upgrade. As we both have emphysema we were both totally exhausted by this time. Whilst sitting getting our breathing back on track a couple entered the room with the key to room 406! I think the General Managers manner was absolutely appalling and having spoken to a few of the other quests his managerial skills are very questionable.

Lovely friendly hotel in a superb location but a mile by road from Skipton town centre and 1.5 miles by the toe path ( much preferred route ).The staff was helpful and obliging when asked for a variation on the dining menu. We booked our Travelzoo deal on 15th March to stay 1 night on 18th June.
We also rang the Skipton Hotel on 15th March and booked dinner in the restaurant for 6.30pm, confirmed a twin room with a canal view (£10 extra to pay at reception on arrival) and requested 2 comfy chairs in our room explaining that I am disabled & my husband suffers arthritis in his back & knees. James on reception (not the manager James) said he had made notes on our booking & it was all sorted.
We’ve stayed at the Skipton Hotel before, last time less than a year ago, everything was fine & we has a lovely time.
4 days before our date of arrival we contacted hotel reception again to confirm our requests:
Dinner booked for 6.30pm in the restaurant, Twin room with Canal view, & 2 comfy chairs in our room.
We spoke to the same James on reception who had the made the notes on our booking made 15th March.
Disappointingly the earliest we could dine was 7.30pm, due to a recent group booking which was for 6.30pm.
Also the canal view couldn’t be guaranteed and there would be 1 desk chair in our room.
We reminded James of the notes he said he had made on our booking.
His solution was to suggest that we dine in the bar “which would be empty by then” …we declined that offer & finally he agreed to sort it out in our favour & send us confirmation.
The day prior to our setting off no confirmation had arrived.
We contacted reception again, this time speaking to Kyra who checked the dinner booking which was still for 7.30. I explained… she apologised & confirmed our requests … she also had no problem amending our dinner booking to 6 pm which was fine with us.
We feel that the lack of communication leading to this inconveniencing is very disappointing & not good policy. It lets down the reputation of a hotel which has so much to offer and deserves to keep its highly recommended status.
However all of the points made below are directed to & for the benefit & attention of the general management of the whole group of hotels.
If they aren’t made aware they can’t fix it.
We feel that someone should ‘have a word’ with the cleaner. We discovered one of the pillows was spilling out it’s contents & was lacking a pillow case.
The glass topped desk hadn’t been cleaned (it was sticky with cup/glass rings stains) also the kettle was 1/2 full of water which is an absolute no no.
The toilet wasn’t properly cleaned & there was fluff & hair in every corner of the bathroom floor.

I am a pensioner and was in room 227. The bathroom was a health and safety hazard. Not even a non-slip mat for the bath/shower. The heat was unbearable and there was no aircon just a noisy fan. When I did get to sleep (after 3.00) I was woken at 6 am by a delivery van under my window with a loud radio and beep on the horn. Breakfast was very good but my evening meal left a lot to be desired. The main course of fishcake was mostly potato with very little fish and the rest of the plate was an enormous portion of fries and salad leaves.
