Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Ormond at Tetbury is a former coaching inn that dates from the late 1600s. The property is in the centre of the honey-stone village—browse its antique stores and vintage boutiques.
  • Bistro 23, the hotel's cosy restaurant, opened in February, 2025. It serves seasonal, locally sourced food with a contemporary twist.
  • Rooms are individually decorated in contemporary style. Some have traditional oak-beamed ceilings and 4-poster beds.
  • The Victorian-era Westonbirt Arboretum is a great location for a nature-filled walk. The arboretum is 10 minutes' drive from the hotel.
  • Further afield are Castle Combe and the city of Bath. The former was a filming location for 1967's "Doctor Dolittle" and 2010's "War Horse". The latter is famed for its Georgian architecture and Jane Austen connections. Both can be reached by car in less than 30 minutes.

Asked for larger double bed which was provided at no extra cost. Room was smallish with little storage space but OK for a short stay. Bathroom was fine with good shower and fairly spacious. Linen etc was fine. Main problem was (we were on the ground floor) footsteps above were very audible, creaky floor(s) could do with sorting. More screws required I suspect. Also ongoing work at the hotel during our visit added to the noise levels and ensured early starts to our days. Staff were very polite and helpful. Parking is some way from the hotel which may be an issue for some. Not sure about dropping off bags at the hotel - we carried ours from the station carpark but can imagine some visitors might find this challenging especially in the pouring rain.

Lovely Old School Coaching inn. Room was very pleasant, nicely decorated, comfy bed . The room faced the main road but it was very quiet until about 6 am and the delivery Lorrie’s came but we still managed to sleep. Food was excellent but with a very limited menu on the first night due to some problems, still good though , breakfasts was excellent. Hotel was central, opposite Highgrove shop. No parking but there was a long stay a few minutes walk away by the church.

Sadly many items on dinner menu were not available on the 2 evenings we ate in Bistro 23. Asked to see the prix fixe menu, this was not available either. Breakfasts were good We stayed in room 19, all good apart from bed was way too soft and sagged in middle. When sitting up in bed and looking at the wall behind bed it was covered in dust which the lamp lights showed up!
