TOP 20 - Sells out quickly!

The Isle of Anglesey has "miles of inspiring coastline, hidden beaches and Wales's greatest concentration of ancient sites", according to Lonely Planet. You can experience it yourself with a 2-night stay at Tre-Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel & Spa this summer for £198, up to 48% cheaper than usual. It includes:

  • Two nights' accommodation in a Standard Double or Twin Room, with daily full Welsh breakfast, for two
  • A bottle of prosecco on arrival (worth £29)
  • It's £109 for an overnight stay without prosecco (Jun-Aug)

Why We Love It

  • The hotel holds a VisitWales Gold Award since 2011
  • Guests get free acces to the spa, named North Wales' Spa of the Year 2016 at the Welsh Hair & Beauty Awards
  • This Victorian mansion is set in 11 acres of gardens with views of Snowdonia

Tre-Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel & Spa has won praise for its 11 acres of landscaped gardens and "breathtaking" (The Daily Telegraph) setting on the Welsh island of Anglesey. The hotel is less than 30 minutes' drive from the "handsome" Georgian town of Beaumaris -- the "most obviously beautiful" place on the island -- and is also ideally located for exploring the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty coastline and other "hidden gems" (Lonely Planet).

The hotel has held a VisitWales Gold Award since 2011 and its famous former guests include Demi Moore, Sir David Attenborough and Alicia Keys.

The Gothic-style building has a traditional finish, with high ceilings and chandeliers. Some of the bedrooms overlook the grounds; others have views of the mountains and the courtyard.

The real showstoppers here are the fine-dining Noëlle's Restaurant and the spa, which is in the hotel's converted stables. Noëlle's serves a 5-course table d'hôte dinner. For more relaxed fare, the Clock Tower serves food until 5pm.

Guests get full access to the spa facilities, which include an indoor pool, a gym and a Thermal Suite with an experience shower, an ice fountain and a salt-inhalation therapy room. Advance booking is advised for treatments.

Unfortunately, when we arrived for our two night break we were informed by the receptionist that the main restaurant was closed for refurbishment. They claimed they were unable to inform us of this in advance as they did not have our contact details! This resulted in rather a restricted menu on both nights in the Clock Tower restaurant which was rather disappointing. The hotel is in a rather isolated location and my vehicle's satnav directed us down extremely narrow single track roads with no passing points! There is however a better way to get there and details of this would have been extremely useful if the hotel had provided this information in advance!
