Why We Love It

  • This family-owned hotel overlooks Derwentwater
  • The market town of Keswick is a 10-minute drive away
  • It has an AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant serving British fare

With a stunning location overlooking Derwentwater, the recently rejuvinated Lodore Falls is a family-owned hotel 10 minutes' drive from the popular market town of Keswick.

Lancashire Life calls it "unashamedly homely", with roaring fires and cosy spots for tea and homemade scones. The AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant has views of the lake and serves traditional British fare. There's also a pleasant garden terrace for al fresco dining (weather permitting).

Local attractions such as the Honister Slate Mine (the last working slate mine in England) and Whinlatter Forest are within a 20-minute drive of the hotel by hopping on the Keswick launch from the hotel's jetty, which is a short stroll away.

Just like the rest of the hotel, the bedrooms make the most of those lake views -- comfy armchairs face the large windows for admiring the scenery, and some even have balconies. There are three main room types: Standard, Fellside and Lake View.

Please be aware that the hotel's leisure facilities and spa will be closed until summer, 2018. During this time, the building-works area will be fenced off and, while the majority of the hotel will not be affected, there will be intermittent noise throughout the week. Please also note that the hotels' waterfall cannot be accessed from the hotel grounds at present, but can be reached via a short stroll.

The hotel was well organised, staff very polite, our room (TheTower Suite) was lovely and food was delicious. It was in a good position with wonderful views over the lake. There is a water taxi across the lake to Keswick.

Other Comments
The dinning room is abit dated but seems part of the theme, the hotel room altho very clean had a very distinctive smell (sewage) however with abit of airing and a few spays of the linx was fine. Shower could do with more pressure.
