Itinerary

  • Day 1... make your way from your local train station to London St Pancras. From here, you'll hop on the Eurostar and travel to Brussels. Your tickets will be Eurostar Plus, which gets you extra-comfy seats, plus a meal on board. You'll then take the train first class to Frankfurt.
  • Day 2... spend the day exploring Frankfurt. Its impressive skyline has drawn comparisons with Manhattan, but it's not all sleek city skyscrapers. Head to Sachsenhausen, the riverside neighbourhood with a cobbled old town and apple-wine pubs.
  • Day 3... hop on a late morning train to Dresden, and arrive in the afternoon. You'll have the rest of the evening to get settled in.
  • Day 4... explore Dresden, with its beautiful Baroque buildings and shimmering Elbe river running through. The Old Town was meticulously reconstructed after the Second World War, and if you visit in December, you'll get to see the magical Christmas markets. Across the river, you'll find a more modern scene—with craft beer and vibrant street art.
  • Day 5... use your Saxony Pass to take a day trip by train to the scenic Elbe Valley. Known as Saxon Switzerland, the area is home to sandstone cliffs, deep forests, and winding rivers. Or, you could cross the border into the Czech Republic and visit the small town of Hrensko.
  • Day 6... travel to Dusseldorf via Berlin and arrive in the early evening. Do some window shopping at the boutiques along the pretty Königsallee, or cosy up in a traditional restaurant in the Old Town.
  • Day 7... head off to either Cologne or Wuppertal by train—just let the team know your preference when booking. Both can be reached in about 20 minutes. Peruse 20th century art at Cologne's Museum Ludwig, or marvel at its Gothic cathedral. Wuppertal is known for its Schwebebahn, a suspension monorail dating from 1901. It's also home to the Von der Heydt Museum, with works by impressionists and Dutch Masters.
  • Day 8... journey back to the UK via Amsterdam, where you'll hop on the Eurostar to London. It's then onto your home station.
