Hotel details
Old Government House is "the grande dame of Guernsey hotels", says The Daily Telegraph. It is on a hill overlooking the island's capital, St Peter Port. The building has played a significant role in the history of Guernsey. It was built as the residence of the Lieutenant Governor in 1796. It was also the official headquarters of the infamous German occupation in the 1940s.

Nowadays, the property is a boutique retreat with refined, quirky interiors. Think tinkling chandeliers, velvet armchairs, and old-world grandeur in spades.

You'll dine once at The Brasserie Restaurant, a light-filled conservatory with views of St Peter Port. You'll also dine at The Curry Room (open Wednesday–Sunday), a historic Indian restaurant with cosy interiors.

Queen Rooms are larger than standard Classic Rooms. They're individually designed and full of character.

About the area
St Peter Port is a short stroll from the hotel. From there, you can explore miles of dramatic coastline, then dip into a cosy pub to sip local stout by a roaring fire. Lots of the island's signature seafood is in season over winter, so you can try the best oysters, clams, and cockles. There's also a great selection of indoor activities, from the German Occupation Museum to candle-making studios and pottery-throwing workshops.

Other options
Solo travellers can book the same getaway from £893.

Transfers & baggage
Add shared transfers to the hotel from £30 per person, return. 20kg checked baggage is included.
