Hotel details
The 5-star Donna Carmela Resort & Lodges is on Sicily's eastern coast, about half an hour's drive up the coast from Catania. It's part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World—a curated collection of hotels that are personally vetted by SLH mystery inspectors to ensure high-quality service. It's also featured in the Michelin Guide, who call it "far from ordinary". 

There's an outdoor swimming pool, a spa, and a gym. You can also learn Sicilian recipes in a cooking class, or take a cocktail masterclass with Giuseppe, the barman.

The main hotel restaurant offers two daily menus, with a blend of haute cuisine and local specialties. There's also a more informal restaurant open just for lunch, which serves Mediterranean dishes. You can take a tour of the hotel garden, by foot or on an electric bike, to see where the chefs source a lot of their produce. The jams and honey you'll enjoy at breakfast come from fruits grown in the hotel's citrus grove.
