Itinerary highlights
Embark from Southampton and call at:
- Cherbourg... a shuttle can take you to the town centre, or you can walk in 10 minutes. You could also take the short train ride to see the Medieval village of Bayeaux, or book a separate excursion to D-Day beaches.
- Vigo... you'll dock right by the fortress-style Old Town. Discover the city's many authentic tapas bars, and be sure to visit Oyster Street. It has some of the very best produce from southern Galicia.
- La Coruna... the port is five minutes' walk from the city centre. The grand main square is perfect for people watching. You can also visit the Picasso Museum, where the artist lived as a child.
- Getxo (for Bilbao)... explore Getxo town, or travel inland to Bilbao (around 15 minutes in a taxi, or 45 minutes on the metro). This Basque city is internationally famous for the avant-garde Guggenheim art gallery. It's also famous for pinxtos, tasty little snacks served on toothpicks.
Return to Southampton on 25 January.
Ship details
Ventura is one of P&O's most relaxed, friendly ships. There are activities to suit all ages, and facilities include four swimming pools and a sports court.
Meals are all included, and guests can dine at either the casual buffet or one of the four sit-down restaurants. Two dining rooms offer Freedom Dining, meaning you can turn up any time from 6–9:30pm and sit wherever you like. Cruise Critic praises the "very high standard" of food, with "adventurous, varied dishes" and "superb service".
Entertainment is specially tailored to British audiences. There are comedy and tribute acts in the main theatre, and live music around the ship in the evenings. Quizzes and bingo are held throughout the day in the pub, and there are bridge and whist tournaments, too.
