Hotel details
The 5-star Casa Cook Samos is an adults-only property, modelled on a traditional Grecian village but with a modern twist. Conde Nast Traveller calls it a "boho-chic sanctuary" that's "blissfully quiet" and says the service was "one of the highlights" of their stay.
There are six swimming pools dotted around the grounds, many of them with Balinese beds to lounge on. Or, the beach is right on your doorstep. Other facilities include a spa and a gym, where you can take part in Pilates or yoga classes.
The restaurant, Beach House, offers a modern take on Greek cuisine by the sea. Breakfast is a buffet affair, but you can get omelettes cooked to order, and it's open until 11am. In the evening, unwind with a cocktail or a crisp glass of wine by the waves of the Aegean.
The hotel places an emphasis on sustainability—plastic is banned, furniture is made locally, and food and drinks are sourced from nearby producers. When the season ends, the staff get involved with cleaning litter in the local area.
Swim Up Suites have direct access to a secluded pool, shared just with a small group of neighbours. Amenities include a TV with satellite channels, a mini bar, a coffee maker, and a wine fridge. Wi-Fi is free.
About the area
The town of Pythagorean, named after the famous former inhabitant, is about five minutes' drive away (there's a a taxi rank just outside the hotel). Traditional tavernas line the harbour, and there's a fascinating archaeological museum, too. Slightly further afield is Kokkari, a former fishing village that's about half an hour's drive from the hotel. Sip on local beer and take in sunset sea views in this quaint little town, home to traditional whitewashed houses and crystal-clear beaches. The Temple of Hera and the Tunnel of Eupalinos are a must-see—both are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
