Mykonian Shades is a boutique guesthouse made up of just nine studios and suites. It's carved out of rock into the hillside, and decorated in classic Cycladian style. Petra Studios are next to the outdoor pool, and come with a kitchenette, a Nespresso machine, and a private veranda. The hotel is just down the road from the charming village of Ano Mera, home to a 16th century monastery. There are two beaches either side of the hotel, both about a 5-minute drive away.

Summer Shades in Paros is in the town of Naousa, on the island's northern tip. Like the Mykononian Shades, it's in a traditional whitewashed Cycladic building, and only has 38 rooms. All of them come with a balcony or terrace, and you'll get a continental breakfast delivered to you each morning. Spend the day relaxing with a book and sipping cocktails by the outdoor pool, or head into the pretty town. Naousa has a quaint harbour lined with restaurants and tavernas, leading down to a sandy beach. You can walk down there in about 15 minutes from the hotel.
