Hotel details
The 5-star Shangri-La Hambantota sits in a secluded area of Sri Lanka's southern coastline. This luxury resort welcomes you with swaying palms, scattered birds nest-inspired chairs, and calming Indian Ocean views. You can expect the staff to be "exceedingly friendly and accommodating to requests", says The Daily Telegraph.
Activities include a 23-foot high trapeze, an archery area, giant chess, cricket, daily bike rides, and Sri Lanka's only 18-hole resort golf course. In addition, there are three outdoor swimming pools, as well as a spa where you can book in a treatment.
With daily breakfast included, you can start your day at the lavish buffet, which includes an omelette station and pastries. Top it all off in the evening with a delicious Sri Lankan curry, or fresh pasta at the main all-day dining restaurant (supplements apply). Additionally, an Asian street food restaurant serves dishes from Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Singapore, along with a lounge bar for afternoon tea or cocktails at sunset.
Deluxe Rooms come with Sri Lankan furnishings, bamboo furniture, and views of the golf course or tropical gardens. There is a glass-enclosed shower in the bathroom, as well as a separate soaking tub, along with designer bath amenities and extra large towels.
