Itinerary
Begin with two nights at the Storm Hotel by Keahotels in Reykjavík. It's less than five five minutes' walk from the city's main shopping street, Laugavegur. Hallgrímskirkja church is 15 minutes away on foot. Winter is a great time to enjoy a hot soak at Iceland's geothermal baths, or catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Next, fly across the Atlantic to Toronto Airport. You'll need to make your own way to Niagara Falls—there are plenty of direct buses and trains, both taking around 90 minutes. The Sheraton Fallsview Hotel is right next to the Falls. You'll get a boat ride for the best views.

Finally, take the Amtrak Maple Leaf train to New York. The journey takes around 10 hours, including the border crossing. The train skirts the Hudson River before arriving at New York's Penn Station. The Hotel Edison is an Art Deco hotel dating from the 1930s, five minutes' walk from Times Square. Broadway and the Rockefeller Center are within 10 minutes away on foot.
