Itinerary
- Mumbai... after your first night, take a boat ride to the UNESCO-listed Elephanta Island. The cave complex here is closely connected to the region's Hindu background, with a number of carvings and statues honouring Lord Shiva.
- Pench National Park... is the base for your first safaris of the trip. After your flight from Mumbai, embark on a guided nature walk, and enjoy a night's stay in your accommodation before heading out on three jeep safaris in the following days. Keep an eye out for the Bengal tigers, leopards, deer, or any of a number of bird species that call the forests of Pench their home.
- Kanha National Park... is the next stop for your journey through India's natural habitats. Larger and less crowded than Pench, your three jeep safaris here will offer views of the park's scenic vistas, as well as a chance to spot sloth bears, tigers, and even vultures. On your last evening here, visit a local village and learn about the traditions and cultures of the communities around Kanha.
- Bandhavgarh National Park... this is where your safari experience will come to an end. Three jeep safaris and a nature walk here will provide you the best odds of spotting a tiger, with Bandhavgahr having the highest density of the animal in the country.
- Khajuraho... with your nature excursions now over, visit some of the area's cultural landmarks. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments are famed for their sandstone sculptures and intricately carved temples that date back to the 10th century. A trip to the Western Group of Temples, of which around 20 have survived the intervening 1000 years, will further emphasise the artistry of the Chandela dynasty.
- Delhi... after one night in Khajuraho, visit the town of Orchha. The Jahangir Mahal, the Raj Mahal, and a whole host of historic temples will keep you busy before your train to Delhi. After a night in your accommodation, head to the airport ready for your return flights.
