Itinerary
Start your adventure in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito. Taste chirimoya fruit and cayambe biscuits on a daytrip to Otovalo. Learn about the town's indigenous heritage, and go on a boat ride on the Cuicocha crater lake. Back in the city, walk the cobbled streets of the historic centre with your guide. You'll also visit a family-run candy shop, and stand on the Equator Line.
Travel to the Amazon rainforest on day four. Ride a motorised canoe on the Arajuno river to reach your lodge, surrounded by dense greenery. In the evening, head out on a guided wildlife walk. During your stay in the jungle, you'll visit a rescue centre where you can observe monkeys, parrots, and ocelots. A thrilling river tubing adventure is also included.
Return to Quito for an artisanal cacao and chocolate tasting experience, then fly to the Galápagos islands the next day. This remote archipelago was crucial to the development of Darwin's theory of evolution.
Delve deeper into the biodiverse island of San Cristóbal. Stop at a giant tortoise sanctuary where you can observe these majestic creatures. Next, head to the pristine white sands of Puerto Chino, framed by volcanic rocks and turquoise waters. Continue to La Lobería, home to a permanent colony of Galápagos sea lions. Finish the day with a guided hike along a spectacular coastal trail, with a chance to see a variety of bird species.
Fly back to the mainland, and take a cable car up to the Pichincha Volcano for views over Quito and the Andean landscape. The last leg of your journey will take you Baños de Agua Santa at the foot of the Tungurahua Volcano. See waterfalls cascading through forest-clad canyons on a tour of the tranquil countryside. A day at leisure will allow you to browse artisanal shops or relax at natural hot springs.
Return to Quito for a final night before flying back home in the UK.
