Itinerary
The adventure begins in Bangkok. After arriving in the Thai capital and being transferred to your hotel, you'll have the rest of the evening to settle in. The next morning, head off on a Bangkok city tour, including the Grand Palace complex, and Wat Phra Kaew. The latter is home to the sacred statue of the Emerald Buddha.
It's then onto Bhutan. A tour is the best way to visit the country, as guides are needed to access many sites. Self-driving is also not allowed for foreign visitors. You'll fly into Paro, then transfer to Thimphu, with some scenic stops on the way. In Thimphu, you'll go on a sightseeing tour. Take in sweeping valley views from Buddha Point, visit the King's Memorial Chorten, and the Trashichhoedzong. This imposting fortress-monastery houses key government offices, and serves as the summer home of the Chief Abbot.
The next day, head to Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong. This massive fortress-monastery served as Bhutan's capital until 1955, and remains the winter residence of the central monk body. In the afternoon, you'll go on a countryside walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of fertility.
On day six, you'll head back to Paro, and visit the Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. You'll also see the Rinpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels. The next day, you'll go on a guided hike to the Tiger's Nest monastery, one of Bhutan's most famous landmarks. This is followed by a visit to Kyichu Lhakang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most revered temples.
After a busy week of exploring, it's time for some relaxation. From Paro, you'll fly to Bangkok and transfer to the beach resort of Pattaya for your final three nights. Alternatively, you can stay in Krabi for an additional £199 per person.
