Itinerary
After flying into San Jose, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The next morning, stop for a traditional breakfast en route to Tortuguero National Park. You'll arrive at your lodge by boat along the main canal. In the afternoon, go on a guided tour of the local village.
The next day, you'll take a full tour of the park, as well as a boat ride along the meandering canals. If you travel in September, you could opt for a night walk, and see the nesting of the green turtles (additional charge).
After leaving Tortuguero, stop at a local restaurant for lunch en route to Arenal. Tick off a guided tour of Arenal Volcano National Park. It's known for its hot springs, tree frogs, and of course, the active volcano.
Next stop is Monteverde, where you'll walk along the hanging bridges of the cloud forest. After two nights here, continue on to the beach resort of Tamarindo. Spend a couple of nights here resting and recharging on golden sands.
Your final stop is Panama City. You'll have three nights here to spend as you choose. See the formidable Panama Canal, home to the Miraflores Locks, where you can see ships pass through this engineering marvel. Wander the streets of Casco Viejo, the city's old town, or take a ferry across to Taboga Island.
