Itinerary

  • Day 1... arrive in Bari and transfer to your hotel in Otranto.
  • Day 2... head to Lecce, known as the Florence of the South for its Baroque architecture. Admire the town's cathedral, the Basilica di Santa Croce, and the buzzing palazzi, then stop at a local bakery for a bite to eat.
  • Day 3... travel to Ostuni for a full-day tour. Ostuni is referred to as the White City due to its white-washed buildings. Enjoy an olive oil tasting, before continuing to Cisternino, another white-washed town in Puglia's rolling countryside.
  • Day 4... join a guided tour of the fascinating Castellana Caves. These winding limestone caverns were discovered by accident in 1938.  Visit the nearby town of Alberobello, famous for its trulli (circular, conical-roofed houses). Visit a winery for a wine tasting, with Italian appetisers. Enjoy dinner this evening on a local farm estate.
  • Day 5... spend the day exploring Bari, Puglia's capital. Discover the Romanesque Basilica di San Nicola—it's dedicated to St Nicholas, also known as Father Christmas. After lunch (supplements apply), take a trip to Castel del Monte. This Medieval property was built by Frederick II.
  • Day 6... travel to the pretty hilltop town of Martina Franca. Wander along the town's white-washed alleys, explore its bustling piazzas, and admire Baroque architecture. Join a guided tour of the Marta Archaeological Museum in Taranto.
  • Day 7... take a trip to Matera, where you'll discover the Sassi di Matera. These ancient UNESCO-listed cave dwellings are carved into Matera's limestone hillsides.
  • Day 8... time to travel to the airport for your return flight home.
