About the play
"Equus", written by Peter Shaffer, originally premiered in London in 1973. It opened on Broadway a year later, with Anthony Hopkins starring, and won three Tony Awards. After 17-year-old Alan Strang blinds six horses, psychiatrist Martin Dysart must delve into the young boy's psyche to find out why. In his search for answers, Martin questions whether the cure is more dangerous than the crime.
The newly revealing production is directed by Lindsay Posner and features choreography from Oliver Award-winner James Cousins. It stars Noah Valentine, with a "brilliant breakout turn" (The Daily Telegraph) as Alan. Martin Dysart is played by Toby Stephens ("Die Another Day", "Percy Jackson and the Olympians") and Amanda Abbington ("Sherlock", "Mr Selfridge") will also star as judge Hesther Salomon.
