Itinerary highlights

• Cologne… on the first day, you'll board the 5-star cruise ship, moored in historic Cologne and sit down to dinner with your fellow passengers.
• Cochem... today sail through the Moselle River and discover Reichsburg Castle, a stunning fairy-tale fortress perched high above the river. Then, stroll through the cobblestone streets of the old town to admire the colourful, half-timbered houses. Or, hike up to St Martin's Church for sweeping views of the valley.
• Trier… on the third day, admire the Romanesque and Gothic architecture in Germany's oldest bishop's church in Germany's oldest city. Climb Porta Nigra for panoramic views and sample the region's Riesling and sparkling wines.
• Bernkastel... next, take in Medieval and Renaissance architecture on a guided walking tour, or visit a local winery. There's also the option to hike to the 9th-century Landshut Castle ruins, before some time at your leisure.
• Koblenz... on day five, enjoy your first glimpse of the forested hills that inspired the legends of the Brothers Grimm. Tour the old city of Koblenz, with turreted buildings, narrow streets, and traditional cafes at every turn.
• Boppard… take in vineyard-coloured hillsides on a riverside stroll. Autumn is grape harvest season, making it the ideal time to stop at a local tavern. Visit the medieval Electoral Castle or ride the chairlift up to the Hirschkopf viewpoint for peaceful views.
  Rhine Gorge and Rüdesheim... meander along the much-photographed river loop to the terraced vineyards of the Rhine Gorge, then moor in Rüdesheim, a classic Rhine wine town. Be sure to warm up with a Rüdesheim coffee (a local speciality shot with brandy and a dollop of whipped cream).
• Cologne… sail back downstream for a guided tour of the enchanting old town. Visit the historic Rathaus, the 12th-century Fischmarkt, and the Romanesque St Martin's Church. The final evening onboard will end with a chocolate tasting session with master Lindt chocolatiers.
