Itinerary
- Day 1... join the ship in Basel and spend the afternoon settling in.
- Day 2... tour Basel on foot or go on a guided bike ride. For something more relaxing, visit nearby Lake Lucerne or join a wine tasting experience.
- Day 3... continue to Strasbourg in France. Follow your guide as you explore the Petite France neighbourhood, with its fairytale-like buildings. Alternatively, travel by bike for a more energetic option.
- Day 4... visit romantic Heidelberg, famous for its Medieval centre; tour Speyer's UNESCO-listed cathedral; or cycle to Ladenburg. Later, continue to Rüdesheim to explore Siegfried's Mechanical Museum—home to over 400 self-playing musical instruments—or sample a traditional Rüdesheimer coffee. Dock in Ludwigshafen for the evening.
- Day 5... discover Rüdesheim's famous wines on a tasting experience, hike through a local vineyard, or go cycling along the Rhine. In the evening, cruise through the UNESCO-listed Rhine Gorge to Lahnstein. You'll then visit Lahneck Castle for a private tour.
- Day 6... cruise to Cologne for a walking tour. Explore the enchanting Old Town—visit the historic Rathaus, the 12-century Fischmarkt, and the Romanesque St Martin's Church. Finish with a Kölsch beer tasting. There's also the option of a riverside bike ride.
- Day 7... arrive in Amsterdam, where you can either take a canal cruise tour or explore the city on foot, finishing at a local artisanal cafe to sample Dutch pastries.
- Day 8... time to disembark the ship and travel home.
Ship details
AmaWaterways ships average around 156 guests, and service is exemplary due to the high crew-to-guest ratio. Meals are all included, from breakfast and lunch buffets to lavish 4-course dinners. Much of the food is inspired by the ports of call and regional wine and beer is served with dinner.
Breakfast comes with unlimited sparkling wine and fresh fruit juice. You can also dine at the Chef's Table speciality restaurant, which hosts a 7-course tasting menu with paired wines.
