Itinerary
Fly to Budapest, then transfer to the port to board Avalon Illumination for your 7-night cruise. You'll call at:

  • Bratislava, Slovakia... the capital of Slovakia is your next stop. Here, you could take a walk through the delightful Old Town and visit the Gothic-style St. Martin’s Cathedral.
  • Vienna, Austria... see the lavish Habsburg Imperial Palace and neo-renaissance Vienna Opera House in the 'city of music'. You could explore the city by bike, or talk a walk in the pedestrian Kärntnerstrasse—the most famous shopping avenue in central Vienna.
  • Wachau Valley, Austria... make sure you have your camera at the ready as you cruise to this Austrian gem. Think rolling hills and vineyards, and charming villages.
  • Linz, Austria... see the Hauptplatz—Austria's largest medieval square— and the white-marble Trinity Column. You could take a hike through the nature trails here, to Pöstlingberg, for a view over the city.
  • Passau, Germany... is home to Europe's largest church organ, with more than 17,000 pipes. See it for yourself in St Stephen's Cathedral, after sailing round the horseshoe bend of the Danube’s Schlogen Oxbow.

Disembark in Vilshofen, and transfer to Munich for your flight home.

Ship details
Avalon Illumination is a small ship which carries 166 passengers at full capacity. Enjoy the views of the Danube from the ship's deck, take on the discovery tours at each destination—many of which are complimentary—and relax with a drink at happy hour once per day.

Breakfasts and lunches are served buffet-style in the glass-walled Dining Room, and dinner is often a four-course affair. The menu is best described as continental with local influences. Wines, produce, and dishes from Austria and the Middle Rhine region of Germany are daily features onboard. Wine and beer are served during lunch and dinner at no extra cost.

Deluxe Staterooms are located on the lower deck of the ship and offer a window at the top of the cabin, as well as a stocked mini-fridge, bath robes, toiletries, and a television. Upgrade to a Panoramic Suite for a balcony and a 'bed with a view'—beds face the window so you can watch the scenery pass by from the comfort of your morning lie-in.

Other options
Stay in a Panorama Suite from an extra £299 per person.
