First, sail the paradise islands of the South Pacific. Then, when most people fly home, stay onboard to explore Australia and New Zealand. Elsewhere, you can only book these sailings separately. This combined package saves £238–£1138 on the cost of booking the cruises back-to-back, and it includes flights and stays.

Itinerary highlights
Recover from your long flight with two nights at a 5-star hotel in Fiji. The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa is right on the beach, and it has five restaurants, including one by the ocean. 

Next, board Oceania Vista for a 26-night cruise. First, you'll explore the South Pacific, calling at:

• Mystery Island, Vanuatu... this is a recreation of an idyllic desert island. The beaches are exquisite, water is clear as glass, and you can walk the whole circumference in 40 minutes.
• Nouméa, New Caledonia... this is the largest city in this French territory, and the largest Francophone city in Oceania. Traditional patisseries and boulangeries combine with coral-sand beaches and pristine reefs.

Then continue south to Australia and sail right down the east coast, stopping at:

• Cairns... this is the best starting point for independent trips to the Great Barrier Reef. It's around 60 minutes away by fast catamaran. There are over 1500 species of fish and 600 kinds of coral.
• Townsville... this is Australia's largest tropical city. Wander the palm-lined esplanade, or dive into its fascinating history. The Museum of Tropical Queensland has relics of sunken British warship HMS Pandora.
• Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Islands... these islands are in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. You'll arrive via tender boat. Airlie Beach Lagoon is a free pool right in the town centre. The famous Whitehaven Beach is 15 minutes away by seaplane.
• Brisbane... this cosmopolitan city is capital of Queensland and famous for its laid-back vibe. We recommend wandering the lush Botanical Gardens and catching the CityCat ferry through the city centre.
• Sydney (overnight in port)... this is the biggest city Down Under. You'll spend a whole day and night in port. Get to know the city, or venture further afield to the Blue Mountains.
• Hobart, Tasmania... the city is on the banks of the Derwent River and still feels like a friendly small town. The compact city centre is full of Georgian and Victorian architecture. 

On the final leg of the cruise, sail over to New Zealand, calling at:

• Milford Sound... cruise one of New Zealand's most famous fjords. Sail through a glacier-carved landscape packed with cascading waterfalls. Here, your French balcony really comes into its own.
• Dunedin... this charming port town is especially artistic. It was once a vibrant artists' colony, and is full of independent shops and galleries.
• Lyttleton (for Christchurch)... this scenic harbour is around 20 minutes from historic Christchurch. This is the biggest city on South Island. It is known as the Garden City for its beautiful green spaces.
• Wellington... this is New Zealand's culture capital, with a vibrant downtown surrounded by vineyards. New Zealand's national Te Papa museum sits by the waterfront.
• Napier... this city was rebuilt Art Deco style after a devasting earthquake in the 30s. Admire the pastel-coloured buildings unique to the area, and view the massive wild gannet colony to the south.
• Gisbourne... this is a sunny beachfront city and popular holiday spot for locals. It has the largest Maori population in New Zealand. See the amazing marae meeting houses and learn about the island from its original inhabitants.
• Tauranga (for Rotorua)... two beaches are within walking distance of the port, including a famous surfing beach. Or, head to geothermal Rotorua, or visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, around two hours away.

Finish up with two nights at a 5-star hotel in Auckland. It overlooks peaceful Albert Park. The iconic Viaduct Harbour is a 15-minute stroll through the city. In your free time, you could go on island wine tastings, or dig your own thermal spa pool on the beach.
