• Oarai, Japan... stay by the coast and tuck into fresh seafood served with ginger and soy sauce. Or, head inland to the Kairakuen garden, home to over 3000 plum trees.
• Aomori, Japan... is located in the northernmost part of Japan's main island. It boasts lush landscapes beyond the port that are well worth a visit. Closer by, you'll find museums and art galleries to explore.
• Hakodate, Japan... soak in the hot springs of Yunokawa Onsen, with views of the Tsugaru Strait. Or, discover historic forts like Goryokaku—a star-shaped fort built in the late Edo period.
• Muroran, Japan... ascend to the observatory at Cape Chikyu and take in spectacular views of Hokkaido’s coastal landscape. Beer aficionados could go on a day trip to Sapporo, home to Japan’s oldest brewery.
• Kodiak, Alaska... this tiny island off Alaska's eastern coast is a nature-lover's paradise. Spot Pacific red elder trees and brown bears feasting on blueberries. You might also spot puffins, red foxes, and whales.
• Seward, Alaska... most cruise ships turn around here, but Regatta calls in port so you can explore. It's named after the US Secretary of State who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia, which you can learn all about in the Seward Museum. Or, discover the breathtaking landscapes of Chugach National Forest.
• Hubbard Glacier (scenic cruising)... glide past this incredible 7-mile long glacier, and spot humpback whales, seals, and otters.
• Sitka, Alaska... this picturesque harbour town fronts the deep-blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. It's also at the foot of the snow-capped Mount Edgecumbe.
• Icy Strait Point, Alaska... is owned and operated by Native Americans. You could kayak in the bay, visit the old salmon cannery, or walk into Hoonah, an Alaskan Tlingit settlement.
• Juneau, Alaska... fly 1800 feet above sea level on the Mount Roberts Tramway, which starts right outside the cruise terminal. Or, take a shuttle to Mendenhall Glacier, famous for its dazzling blue ice.
• Wrangell, Alaska... one of the oldest towns in Alaska, this charming city has a fascinating history. Pick up a souvenir from local artisans, or take a visit to the Stikine River. It's known as one of the last great wilderness areas remaining in North America.
• Ketchikan, Alaska... is close to the southern tip of Alaska, and the gateway to Misty Fiords National Monument. The area has a rich Haida and Tlingit heritage: "there is no better place in the US to see totem poles in all their craning, colorful glory", says Lonely Planet.
  
• Seymour Narrows, Canada (scenic cruising)... take in powerful tidal whirlpools, rugged coastal wilderness, and a variety of wildlife on this dramatic transit route. 
• Vancouver, Canada... fringed by ocean and mountains, the penultimate cruise port offers all the big-city attractions. Explore the Vancouver Museum of Art, vibrant Chinatown, or the historic Gastown district. It's also home to Stanley Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America.
• Victoria, Canada... is the capital of Vancouver Island in Canada's British Columbia. Often, ships are welcomed by Tartan-clad bagpipers. The cobbled streets and Victorian streetlamps might remind you of Edinburgh. 
• San Francisco... you'll have a night in port here, giving you some time to explore before your flight home. Marvel at the Golden Gate Bridge, wander Fisherman's Wharf, or book a tour of Alcatraz.

Ship details
Cruise Critic calls Regatta the "Goldilocks ship" as it's not too big, nor too small. Accommodating just 694 passengers, it never feels too crowded. During the day, you can relax by the swimming pool, or in the plush spa. In the evenings, you can catch a Broadway-style show, or sing along in the piano bar.

There are five dining options on board, all of which are included. Speciality options include an Italian restaurant, and a steak and seafood venue. There's also a poolside grill, a cafe, and the main dining room. This offers plenty of variety each day, including a 'taste of the world' special at lunch times.
