Cruise itinerary highlights**

• Ponta Delgada... arrive in Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores. Transfer from the airport to the city and spend the day at your own pace. Stay overnight before embarking the ship in the afternoon.
• Pico... explore the tallest mountain on the Atlantic Ridge. Visit one of the island's former whaling villages. Then, travel to the wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy a tasting before sailing to the island of Faial.
• Faial... ​head to Capelinhos, a volcano which erupted in 1957. Stroll the marina, visit a museum, or enjoy a coffee at a local café.
• São Jorge... hike to Caldeira de Santo Cristo Lake, known for its clams. Visit the small villages or explore the coffee and tea plantations. Taste world-renowned São Jorge cheese. Sail around the tip of the island looking for nesting seabirds, Risso's dolphins, and whales.

• Ponta Delgada... explore the Furnas Valley and sample a typical Azorean​ specialty for lunch. Cozido is a dish made with a variety of meats and vegetables. It is naturally cooked underground from the heat of volcanic activity. Join local spotters and a marine biologist on a catamaran in search of whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Disembark the ship and transfer to the airport.

National Geographic Orion carries 102 passengers and a crew of 76. It is an authentic expedition ship equipped with state-of-the-art tools for exploration. Facilities include a glass-bottom boat, underwater cameras, and video microscope.
