Itinerary
You'll begin your holiday in Melbourne. This lush and vibrant city offers colourful laneways, hidden bars, artsy cafes, and fashion boutiques. You'll visit Phillip Island to see the penguins waddle across the beach.
Tasmania is your next stop, after a short flight. The island's capital, Hobart, is lively but retains an old town charm. Wander pretty streets, drinks cocktails on the waterfront, or head up Mount Wellington, a beautiful landmark which dominates the skyline. Join a full-day tour of Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park.
Fly again and find yourself in Sydney, the capital of New South Wales. Wander at will and get to know the city at your own pace. Visit the Circular Quay for the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Explore the Botanic Gardens, or relax on Bondi Beach. Enjoy an included cruise of the harbour and a tour of the Blue Mountains.
Then, board Grand Princess for nine nights and call at:
- Brisbane... is one of the continent's most liveable cities. Museums, galleries, and restaurants are lapped by warm waves, and you can sometimes spot whales and dolphins from the beaches.
- Airlie Beach... is the gateway to some of the best beaches in Australia. Whitehaven Beach has over four miles of sugary white sand. The Whitsunday Islands are perfect for optional island-hopping excursions.
- Yorkey's Knob... here's the jumping-off point for optional shore excursions to the inimitable Great Barrier Reef. Grab your gear and snorkel and swim in the technicolour reefs.
- Willis Island... this stop is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory. It is home to meteorologists who man the island's weather monitoring station.
You'll call back into Sydney at the end of the cruise and board your flight home from there.
Ship details
Grand Princess holds around 2600 passengers at full capacity, and it has an almost 2-to-1 passenger-to-crew ratio for a relaxed holiday at sea.
Loungers surround the freshwater pools, some complete with Jacuzzis, and there's an adults-only spa (supplements apply to treatments). Visit the putting green, play basketball, attend a history and art lecture, or watch a movie under the stars at the open-air cinema.
According to Cruise Critic, the quality of food is high, and the Italian specialities at the pizzeria are "out-of-this-world delicious". With three main dining rooms (included) and two speciality venues to choose from, everyone will find a suitable option.
Evenings are all about entertainment, whereby you can catch a spectacular show at the theatre. Or, head to the piano bar, try your luck at the casino, or show off your moves at the onboard nightclub.
