Itinerary
Dock in 34 ports on this 11-night trip. The cruise sets sail from Bergen, and makes its way to the small coastal town of Ålesund, a base for fishing fleets in the region, before continuing on to Trondheim. Norway’s original capital has wide streets lined with colourful buildings and a large student population. On day four, cross the Arctic Circle in search of the Northern Lights.
On day five, dock 500 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, before heading to Honningsvåg. Then travel to Kirkenes, from where the ship heads back to Bergen, with stops on the way including Vesterålen and Kristiansund.
Ship details
MS Nordlys is named after the Northern Lights. The art, decoration, and colours onboard are also inspired by the phenomenon. Facilities include a sauna, a fitness room, and a large outdoor sun deck—the perfect spot to take in Norway's awe-inspiring views. Sail with a dedicated expedition team. They will accompany you on optional hikes and provide daily talks on various Norwegian topics, such as nature, history, culture, and language.
There are three main restaurants onboard—choose between buffet, à la carte, and bistro menus. There's also a bakery and lounge bar. The latter offers panoramic views of the coastline.
"Hurtigruten itineraries are often described as 'the world's most beautiful', as they provide access to some of the most stunning scenery of Norway", says Fodor's. The smaller ships can enter fjords and straits that are too narrow and shallow for large cruise liners. Being away from the glare of big cities also increases the chance of seeing the Northern Lights.
This package also includes a Northern Lights promise. If the Northern Lights do not occur within sight of your ship during your cruise, you'll receive a 6- or 7-night voyage on the same route free of charge.
Transfers & baggage
Both are included.
