Itinerary
- Praia da Vitoria, the Azores... visit the former capital's charming historic quarter, beautiful natural harbour, and 16th-century fort. Explore inside the Algar do Carvao volcano with an optional** excursion, or take a guided hike along the Mistérios Negros nature trail.
- Ponta Delgada, the Azores (overnight in port)... located on São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, this is the archipelago's capital and is known for its "enviable landscape of forest-wrapped volcanic peaks, azure lakes and improbably perfect calderas" (Lonely Planet). Discover the island's 17th-century churches with an optional history tour, or take a scenic drive to see the Sete Cidades Crater Lakes.
- La Palma, Spain... wander along the picturesque promenade or relax in the bustling Plaza España. Join an optional panoramic drive, or visit Caldera de Taburiente National Park to explore the world's largest volcanic crater.
- Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain... relax on sandy beaches, shop for souvenirs on Calle de Castillo, or people-watch at Plaza España. Optional excursions include a cable car ride up to the highest point of the island to explore El Teide National Park, or a catamaran trip to spot whales and dolphins.
- San Sebastián, Spain... unwind at one of the many pavement cafés or retrace Christopher Columbus's steps through the city—the explorer stayed here on his way to discover the New World. You can visit the idyllic island of La Gomera with optional tours—discover the Hotel Jardin Tecina or the Hermigua botanical gardens.
- Funchal, Portugal... head to the picturesque Madeira Botanical Gardens or admire stunning views over the island with a ride on the Funchal Cable Car. Join optional tours to visit an organic vineyard with ocean views, or uncover the city's natural flora with a Flowers of Funchal tour.
Ship details
Bolette is Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' flagship and features classic, elegant style complete with a grand 2-tiered dining room. Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included, plus black-tie evenings, and a traditional afternoon tea is served every day, with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes.
Meals are served in the Bloomsbury and Terrace restaurants, which have 5-course à la carte menus. If you'd like something special, you can dine at Fred. Olsen's two speciality restaurants for a small supplement—Vasco, which specialises in Goan cuisine, or Colours & Tastes, which serves Asian fusion dishes (£10 per person supplement when pre-booked, or £15 when booked on board).
During the day, you can cosy up in one of the lounges, or visit The Observatory, which has panoramic ocean views. At night, you can watch big-production shows in the Neptune Lounge, which also hosts stand-up comedy acts, as well as the Captain's welcome and farewell parties.
There will be a number of guest speakers onboard—learn more about the natural history of the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands with Steve Head, an expert in geology and zoology. There will also be a dedicated team of Ocean Conservationists from ORCA onboard, aiding you in finding and identifying marine wildlife.
Sample and learn to recreate treats from the region onboard ship, including Azorean-style tuna steak, piri piri chicken with potatoes and vegetables, cheesy beef empanadas, orange olive oil cake, and pastéis de nata.
