Itinerary

  • Funchal, Madeira… drop anchor at the pretty capital where colourful architecture lines cobbled streets, and lively garden squares teem with cafés and shops.
  • Santa Cruz de la Palma... spend the day wandering along the picturesque promenade or relaxing in the bustling Plaza España. On an optional tour, head to one of the best wine-growing regions on the island, Fuencaliente, where you can visit the San Antonio volcanic park before stepping inside one the island’s wine cellars.
  • Santa Cruz, Tenerife… this island, rich in biodiversity and natural beauty, is the "striking grande dame" of the Canaries (Lonely Planet). The bustling capital, Santa Cruz, is a handsome city to keep you busy for the day.
  • Las Palmas, Gran Canaria… spend the day in town, known for its sunny languor and friendly vibe along the sandy sweep of Las Canteras beach, or admire dramatic variations of terrain from the green north to the desert-like south on an excursion around the island.
  • Arrecife, Lanzarote… has a hotchpotch of charming downtown backstreets leading to an inviting promenade and a sandy beach. You can also explore the island further afield, and admire an astonishing geology of eerie lava fields, hundreds of volcanic cones, and bucolic palm-filled valleys.
  • Cádiz, Spain… with swaying palms, whitewashed buildings, and a beautiful, yellow-domed cathedral, this city is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe. It is also the departure point for tours to Seville, the sun-soaked capital of Andalusia.
  • Lisbon, Portugal… the Portuguese capital is "one of Europe's oldest and most beautiful cities" (Condé Nast Traveller). With world-class museums, a wide array of boutiques and galleries, and it is also the original home of pastéis de nata, the irresistible egg custard tarts.

Ship details
Named by the late Queen Elizabeth II, P&O Cruises' Britannia is "elegant and refined and perfectly captures the spirit of modern Britain" (Cruise Critic). The ships' interiors were designed by Richmond International, who have worked on a number of great British hotels—including The Langham, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, the Intercontinental Hotel London, and the Four Seasons Hampshire.

The ship has four swimming pools and an adults-only enclave called The Retreat. This is designed for ultimate relaxation with day beds, cabanas, and two hot tubs (supplements apply). There are three main dining rooms with menus that vary every day, and other options include a poolside grill, a pizzeria, and a "grab and go" eatery, which serves snacks, sandwiches, and salads.

On Gala nights, you'll be treated to a six-course menu created by Marco Pierre White. Speciality dining options include an Indian restaurant, a wine-and-tapas bar, and a fine-dining molecular gastronomy restaurant (fees apply).

There is also a cocktail lounge, a pub, and a wine bar. The ship's 936-seat theatre hosts fantastic live shows and musical performances, and there is also a ballroom, a late-night disco, a cinema, and a casino.
