Itinerary
The holiday begins in Athens. You'll stay at a 5-star in the city centre, just a 10-minute drive or half an hour's walk from the iconic Acropolis. After two nights, you'll board Azamara Onward for a 10-night cruise, calling at:
- Syros... Neoclassical mansions hang over the hills along the sea in the capital, Ermoupoli. You could join an optional walking tour. Or, explore the town, and the island's sandy beaches at your leisure.
- Volos... is said to be home to the legendary Centaurs, as well as Jason and his mythological argonauts. This city on Greece's mainland is steeped in legend, and retains an elegant feel with its streets lined with grand residences.
- Thessaloniki... is known as Greece's second city (after Athens). Watch the world go by in Aristotelous Square, a short walk from the port, or while away an afternoon in a traditional taverna.
- Chios... unlike its sugar-cube style cousins, the island of Chios has distinct, fortress-like architecture. The island was the ancestral home of shipping barons, and is now dotted with unusual heritage buildings.
- Kusadasi... this Turkish port is about a 30-minute drive from Ephesus. According to Lonely Planet, it is "Europe's most complete classical metropolis".
- Patmos... this speck of land in the Aegean has an enigmatic and spiritual quality. It is sprinkled with more than 40 monasteries, and it was once home of John the Apostle. You could go on a guided tour, or just while away at a seaside taverna.
- Paros... is famous for its stunning natural scenery and golden beaches. Marble from Paros was used for the statue of Venus de Milo, as well as for much of the Acropolis of Athens.
- Mykonos... the glamour island of Greece is known for its high-end boutiques and restaurants. Or, visit beautiful Ano Mera, home to a 16th-century church with impressive Orthodox iconostasis. You'll stay overnight in port here, giving you plenty of time to explore.
Disembark in Athens for your flight home.
Ship details
Azamara Onward is a ship that carries 684 passengers at full capacity. Its small size allows it to call at ports out of reach of bigger ships. The cruise line prides itself on casual luxury, and schedules provide ample time spent in destinations.
There are six dining venues, including the Discoveries Restaurant which offers flexible dining with no assigned seating. You can also drop in to Aqualina (Italian) or Prime C (grill and steak) for a speciality experience (chargeable). Standard spirits, and international beers and wines are included, and so are tips. 24-hour room service, and self-service laundry are also covered.
The Sanctum Spa offers massage and beauty treatments for a fee. Join Pilates classes or outdoor yoga sessions. Work out in the gym, or find your favourite spot on a lounger around the pool.
You can attend Azamara's signature White Night party held weather permitting once per cruise. Enjoy canapes and drinks under the stars, with a live DJ providing the soundtrack. You'll also get a complimentary AzAmazing Evening. This is a immersive experience, like a show or a concert, held in port to give guests a taste of local culture.
