Itinerary
Set sail from Bergen to the small coastal town of Ålesund, famed for its Art Noveau architecture, before continuing on to Trondheim. Norway’s original capital has wide streets lined with colourful buildings. On day four, journey across the Arctic Circle in search of the Northern Lights. You'll land in Bodo, where you can join an optional boat trip to the Saltstraumen maelstrom (extra charge).
On day five, dock 500 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, before heading to Honningsvåg. It's then onto Kirkenes, from where the ship heads back towards Bergen. Stops on the way including Hammerfest—Norway's northernmost town—and Brønnøysund, which is home to the Seven Sisters mountains.
Ship details
MS Kong Harald is named after Norway's King Harald V. A skilled swimmer and sailor, he represented Norway in three Olympic Games.
Facilities include a sauna, a fitness room, a panoramic lounge, and a sun deck—the perfect spot to take in Norway's awe-inspiring views. Sail with a dedicated expedition team. They will accompany you on optional hikes and provide daily talks on various Norwegian topics, such as nature, history, culture, and language.
There are three main restaurants onboard—choose between buffet, à la carte, and bistro menus. There's also a bakery and lounge bar.
"Hurtigruten itineraries are often described as 'the world's most beautiful', as they provide access to some of the most stunning scenery of Norway", says Fodor's. The smaller ships can enter fjords and straits that are too narrow and shallow for large cruise liners. Being away from the glare of big cities also increases the chance of seeing the Northern Lights.
This package also includes a Northern Lights promise. If the Northern Lights do not occur within sight of your ship during your cruise, you'll receive a 6- or 7-night voyage on the same route free of charge.
Transfers & baggage
Both are included.
