Greenland: frozen wonders & wide-open spaces

15 Nov 2016

Greenland epitomises the phrase "road less travelled". And, with the increased spotlight on the Artic nation, there’s never been a better time to explore its frozen wonders and wide-open spaces.

Why go in 2017

With the popularity of hiking remote trails sweeping Europe, Greenland has steadily started to feature more prominently on Instagram feeds and travel blogs. 2017 is a great time to visit before mass tourism changes the feel. To save money, we recommend flying to Copenhagen with Ryanair for as little as £15. From there you can use Air Greenland’s direct flights from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq, which are up to half the price of flights from the UK.

Insider tip

Make sure you cruise the immense UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Icefjord and look out for humpback whales around the capital of Nuuk.

When to go

For active types, head there in the summer months as the sun melts away the obstacles of hiking trails, and boat trips between cities and towns become more viable. For something special, the winter months provide the perfect opportunity to see the Northern Lights in all their glory.
