Fees & taxes: What you need to know

18 Feb 2026

You may have noticed that, over the last few weeks, we have made some changes to our deal pages, particularly those for holiday and cruise packages.

In our description of the offer and the price you'll pay, we now outline all additional taxes, fees, and charges that will apply. The price in our headlines now takes account of all mandatory extra fees.

Here is your guide to the changes we have made and why we have made them.

What is the new legislation?
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act came into force last year to protect consumers from unfair trading. It covers a lot of the same ground as previous legislation, but adds specific provisions targeting practices such as fake reviews and what's often called "drip pricing".

This is the practice of adding fees and charges on top of an initially advertised price. For example, when a ticket is advertised as £30, but at the checkout another £5 is added, making the total £35. Or, when a holiday is £399, but when you arrive at the hotel, you have to pay an extra £10 per night.

Why is this happening?
The new laws are intended to ensure products are priced in a way that is clear and transparent to the consumer. The Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) aims to prevent instances where a consumer makes a purchase they wouldn't have made if they'd known from the outset what the true cost would be.

What is Travelzoo doing to ensure it complies with the new laws?
At Travelzoo, we've always been transparent about mandatory charges such as resort fees and city taxes. Our offers have always spelled out when these would be payable and—whenever the information has been available—stating what those charges would be.

The difference now is that the headline price for every offer we publish will include all mandatory charges. The explanation within the deal page will then break down those charges, to whom they will be payable, and when.

So, if an offer's headline price contains resort fees, we'll let you know what you'll pay up front to book the holiday, as well as anything extra you'll need to pay at the resort once you arrive.

Since the CMA issued their guidance in the autumn of 2025, we've worked with all our partners to ensure that every offer we present to you—whether in an email or on our website—is fully compliant with both the letter and the spirit of the new legislation.
