  • The Ro is one of the Lake District's oldest hotels. Dating from 1881, it originally opened as a hydropathic retreat where guests could indulge in water cures.
  • Guestrooms are "light and fuss-free" (The Daily Telegraph). Amenities include a coffee maker, bathrobes, and slippers.
  • The hotel showcases the best of Cumbria in all aspects. Local art on display and serving local produce positively impacts the community.
  • Hydro Wellness Club opened last year. It features a gym, heated pool, Jacuzzi, and relaxation area (supplement applies). We have negotiated a spa experience for £45 for two as well.
  • The property sits away from the busy main street. It is within walking distance of local attractions and shops. The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction is five minutes' walk away. Embark on a Lake Windermere cruise from the Windermere Jetty Museum, 10 minutes' walk away.

Nice pleasant stay. Not too far to walk to the lake, but it’s steep, so not ideal if you struggle to walk uphill. Great breakfast. We upgraded to lakeview which was worth it for £10 with Travelzoo. Be aware Car park is an additional £7.50 per day.

Bathroom could have been fitted better as the loo is far too close to the door, and has an ill fitting seat, which is the wrong shape for the toilet, and the over mirror lighting does not work.

Very warm and friendly welcome at Th Ro. Large, imposing hotel but looking its age in places (144 years old) despite a refurbishment 4 years ago. Clean but looked tired and in need of repainting and repair. Staff were friendly throughout. Meal on the first night was tasty. Breakfast, on the first morning was self service and good selection. The second morning only the cold self service was available but hot breakfast could be ordered. Spa had a small rectangular swimming pool and jacuzzi. Nice relaxation room with water and fruit available but not much of a view. Lovely 30 minute facial. Overall we enjoyed the break.
