Why We Love This Deal
Dating back to 1598, the 20-room Royal George Hotel in the Wye Valley reopened in August after a complete restoration. The ruins of the iconic Tintern Abbey are five minutes' walk away. Travelzoo members save £173 against the direct flexible price at this "very well finished and appointed property in a good location".
What's Included
- Valid Sunday–Thursday until 22 December, 2025; 1 January–31 March, 2026. A supplement of £20 per night applies on Friday–Saturday, payable direct to the hotel
- Two nights' accommodation in a Garden Patio room for two
- Daily full Welsh breakfast

More Reasons to Go
- The property was originally the ironmaster's cottage for the nearby mine. It was converted into a coaching inn in the 1800s. Original wood beams, stone walls, and architectural features have been preserved through the refurbishment.
- Dining options include a restaurant with views over Wye Valley, a cosy pub, a garden with a firepit, and a cafe.
- The monastic complex of Tintern Abbey sits beside the River Wye, a short stroll from the hotel. Built by the Cistercian order in the 12th century, it fell into disrepair during Henry VIII's reign. The Gothic masterpiece inspired works by William Wordsworth and JMW Turner.
- A woodland walk nearby ends at Devil's Pulpit viewpoint overlooking the abbey and Tintern village.
- Stuck for Christmas gift ideas? Give a dining, spa, activity, theatre, or hotel experience, and create a memory.

Very comfortable refurbished hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very comfortable with fridge, tea & coffee making facilities - everything you may need. Enjoyed the bar food each night & an excellent breakfast. Plenty of free parking. Absolutely no complaints from us.

A very enjoyable short break, all the staff were very friendly, the refurb was extremely well done, it was very cosy and comfortable
Other Comments
Unfortunately there were a few teething problems hence only 4 stars for the rooms, no hot water in my brothers room in the shower ( much needed in the wet weather) and this was not fixed during the stay. The bathroom floor needs re doing, extremely cold tiles with the grout breaking up so showering with broken grout under my feet. Also the carpet was not hoovered by housekeeping. Eating in the bar was fine, a lot more affordable than the restaurant, but we ate in both and enjoyed both. Overall the food was good but some dishes didn’t work.

We had a very enjoyable stay at The Royal George Hotel even though the weather wasn’t brilliant. We found all the staff to be very friendly and couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcomed, especially Kirsty on reception. It would be a location that we would consider revisiting in better weather. Thank you.

We have had a lovely stay at hotel, staff were so helpful and apart from awful weather it was perfect. My husband is disabled so small improvements to room would be appreciated.

We must mention Kirsty, the receptionist, who was so welcoming and helpful, the best we have ever experienced. Please let her know our thoughts.

Restaurant prices and 15% gratuity charge are too much for this location.

We arrived a day early but this was handled courteously and professionally at Reception. It was our mistake! The hotel is beautiful with all areas welcoming and comfortable. Our room overlooking the garden was spacious and had a lovely balcony that we used even in the rain.

All the staff without exception were friendly, polite and professional. The food was superb (we had breakfast and dinner) and we’d love to return.

excellent in every way. Food wonderful, our garden balcony room was delightful and the staff were all superb. An easy walk to Tinturn Abbey. The only quibble was arriving on a Sunday at 3pm saw the carpark full and not easy to park. Sunday lunches were still in full swing.
