I liked the spacious room we received with a dining credit of $70 for two per day with a $10 drink credit too. That was a bonus, but overall it was ok, except for the false fire alarm that made us panic and had to quickly gather ourselves to safety. I don’t think I’d stay there again, but for the modest price I guess it’s okay.

The shower was slow and water was coming out of the spout at a very minimal speed that made it really hard to rinse off. Also, there was no valet parking which sucked to the core with a family haven’t to lug our heavy belongings without any persons to help us. Lastly, the employees at the restaurant inside the hotel weren’t quite friendly. Most had bad attitudes that made the dining experience unpleasant. Only a few tried their best to smile and have a positive vibe, but most were grumpy and a look of annoyance to have them asked for anything that made them have to walk to get utensils or a box to go.

Also, the second night of our stay someone checked in next to us and we could hear them talking all night and in the morning. There was only a small door separating our rooms. Even though we are locals, we have stayed many times in SF and have to say this was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. The staff was wonderful, the ambience was great, and the location was perfect for ease of walking to many restaurants, shops and other sites of interest.

All was exceptional except for the housekeeping services. Upon check in, our attendant taking our luggage to our room, came back down and told the front desk that the room we were supposed to occupy smelled like cigarettes! This is a non-smoking property! They did accommodate us to another room immediately, but was shocked that housekeeping did not raise the issue before saying our room was available! Secondly, during our stay, we noticed a used floss pick on a dining chair!!!! We had to call down and ask them to see what was found. They showed up hours later! Finally, after cleaning of our room after the first night, they did not replace the water bottles for the coffee machine! The coffee reservoir was not portable!!! Again, all other services and staff were impeccable!

We were lucky that the Redwood Room was open, it was the highlight of our stay, Jackie was the best bartender anyone could have, very attentive and friendly. I hope they keep it open daily. On booking, it said the Redwood Room are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Highly recommend this hotel. Just be aware, no parking in the hotel, but plenty of choices nearby.

We wish the bar/lounge had been open the night we were there as we hear it is amazing. Close to theater and Union Square if that is your destination this hotel would be good. Great quiet large room with comfortable beds. The only downside of the room is the shower which only has rainfall head and no handheld or fixed shower head. The water preasure was pretty low and thus showering took a bit of time.
Meals in the Redwood Room and in Fredericks were very good but rather pricey. Fortunately the F&B credit ( Hooray for Travelzoo!) Covered it all.
I would definitely return to the Clift Royal Sonesta.

The photos of the lobby of the hotel are a little misleading. The entry does not come across as quite as spectacular. However, it's not bad either. The bar/restaurant was very nice, although we didn't eat there, we had drinks the bartender was very friendly. We wished it opened before 5:00. All the staff were great. The morning breakfast was not great but good and they have that system down so the line moves fast. The guest services guy Steve was GREAT! He got us a short notice reservation at an AMAZING Italian restaurant just a 5 minute walk away. The rooms were large, and quiet. The beds could use an upgrade but not horrible. We had to Uber whenever we left the hotel. Walking to the ballpark or the wharf is just not realistic even for the best. It's just long boring walks (lots of hills) and wastes time. Uber were easy to get however, reasonable when sharing the ride with our friends and fast. One of the BEST things about this Travel Zoo package was the credits. $72.00 + 50.00 + 10.00--PER DAY! We were able to have a nice cook to order breakfast, and drinks at the bar each day and didn't use all our credits. That with the great price on the room would have me coming back. Parking is right across the street...not overly inconvenient and not that expensive for the city.

Our family of four (including a 6- and 8-year-old) had an amazing stay at the Clift Royal Sonesta this past weekend. The hotel’s central location puts you in the heart of all the sights and is within easy walking distance to trains, bus routes, cable cars, the baseball stadium, and Chinatown, with simple access to Uber/Lyft as well. The highlight was the front doorman, whose warmth and quick attention made the kids smile every day—he even shared little “secrets” about the giant lobby chair! The breakfast was AMAZING: my husband loved the perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict, while the kids devoured the fruit cup and delicious pancakes. Our room was quiet (away from the elevators), spacious, clean, and comfy. If we visit San Francisco again, we’d definitely stay at the Clift Royal Sonesta.

Most everything went well, but our room was near the elevators and the went late into the night and started very early in the A.M. If we would have been advised of this at check in we would have chosen another room. Also the water pressure in the shower was so low, you had a hard time rising the shampoo out of ones hair. it would take close to a half hour to complete a shower.

When we arrived at the hotel the check in clerk wrote the credits on our room key envelope that stated $72 dollar breakfast credit , $50 beverage credit and a daily $10 credit applied to food or beverage . During our stay the computer system went down and they reverted to manually entering our charges and upon Check out could not verify our bill . They said they would email the receipt . When I got my receipt emailed , the hotel did not apply the credits to my account . When I contested the charges the breakfast credit is not actually $75 nor $72 as they charged and deducted $12 for gratuity and $7 tax so that they breakfast credit is really only $53. One would need a calculator to keep track of your breakfast charges. I did ask the cashier in the breakfast room if I was within my credit limit and both times he acknowledged that indeed we were . Then they did not apply the $50 beverage.credit nor the $10 daily food and beverage credit . Even though upon check in the front desk clerk clearly stated the credits , the hotel blamed Travelzoo for not applying the credit to the hotel . I only received $72 dollar refund . I am not sure if I would go back to their hotel as they placed the blame for their snafu upon Travelzoo. Computer failures happen but I expect a hotel of this caliber to keep better records and give their guests the benefit of the doubt especially when the guest has done nothing to trigger the problem . Did Travelzoo forget to apply the credits ?

I spent less than 12 hours at the hotel, as it was a single-night stay. So I didn't experience a lot of what the hotel had to offer. Front desk staff were great. Room was large, fresh and clean.

We were delighted by our first-time stay at this hotel. The hotel itself was lovely. The gentleman at reception was friendly and welcoming. He reviewed all of our booking perks with us, which was appreciated. The room was spacious, clean and recently updated. The beds were comfortable; and, my favorite, the windows opened for fresh air! We had cocktails in The Redwood Room (a don’t miss experience) and breakfast in Fredericks. Both were excellent. The Union Square location is exactly what we wanted, with plenty of parking garages for our car and walking distance to great San Francisco restaurants. We had a fantastic weekend getaway and plan on putting the experience on repeat.

We had a great time celebrating one night of our honeymoon at the Clift Royal Sonesta. The staff were kind and helpful. The hotel has a cafe and a historic bar. The food and beverage credit is nice, be aware that they do not cover taxes. There are a lot of tourism taxes in SF!

An older hotel but it has been remodeled. We had an room with a connecting door which was not as soundproof as it could have been. Could hear the dog in the next room barking. Try to get a room that is not a connecting room.

We enjoy the professional service throughout the hotel. We’ve stayed a number of times now and will certainly return. When one has a super view, it is great to have clean windows and these windows are clean. It seems like a small thing. But it’s the small things that make or break a good stay.

The hotel is lovely. I visited the Redwood Room Bar when it first reopened as an Ian Schafer property. There was a definite buzz. The building is still there, but the buzz is gone. The beauty remains, but the sound has flown. The front desk staff were largely apathetic and uninterested at check-in, or any other time. No smiles or looking up. The manager said welcome back. No one else did even though they were not at all busy. The rooms were really nice. The restaurants served a limited breakfast, but it was good and ate staff friendly. They did not serve dinner. The bar served light snacks. Kind of a big miss not having a restaurant that doesn’t serve dinner in a big hotel? Concierge sat in a room by himself. You wouldn’t even know he was there. I think he preferred to be by himself. No help with bags was available arrival. Cleaning staff missed cleaning the room.

Hotel and Redwood Room were of historical significance to the city. All of the staff were courteous, always helpful and kind, and the room was cleaned, with bed linen and towels changed daily.

The hotel was an overall good experience. The breakfast menu was fine; the prices would be high if not on a breakfast-included rate, Frederick's was an attractive space with friendly, helpful personnel. With my room rate some drinks or snacks were included in the Redwood Room lounge. That was a lovely space which was only open part of the week. For that reason I lost half of my drink allowance.

The man at the reception desk treated me like an interloper when I approached him to check in. I appeared with my small bags, but I'd had a breakdown of my cell phone and had trouble getting taxi or ride share. I was blown to bits and frozen, but that still doesn't excuse the "What do you want?" response I got as I, with great relief, finally stood in front of the first person I'd meet at the hotel. I'm pleased to say all other personal were efficient and competent.

We got an incredible deal booking with travel zoo. We upgrade our room to a suite. Drinks and breakfast included and the waived fees for internet made this a place we would visit again.
No valet parking but there is a secure parking lot very close to hotel. Thai restaurant across the street had wonderful food.

What a great deal through Travelzoo for this hotel! Conveniently located two blocks from Union Square and not quite to the sketchy part yet. Hotel very nicely restored and my room is huge for San Fran! Very clean and modern, nicer than the JW Marriott room in downtown LA. The deal with Travelzoo with included breakfast and extra $50 bar credit was more than I needed given there for business and had most meals included, but a great deal. Bat food was actually pretty good for a light dinner. Gym was enough but a bit brighter lighting would be better. Would love to go back when I. Town with family again.

Lovely, historical hotel. The Redwood room was beautiful and we enjoyed the jazz on Thursday. The staff was welcoming and Steve, the concierge went out of his way for us. The only negative was the heavy perfumed air in the lobby. I have fragrance sensitivity and It caused my asthma to flair. Even in the Redwood Room, the fragrance could be smelled and felt. We left a day early because it made me feel sick. It’s too bad because I definitely would have gone back

The hotel was beautiful and while renovated, still retains the charm of a 100+ year old property. The rooms were spacious and quiet with very comfortable beds and a nice sitting area. The staff were all wonderful, especially Albert the Bell Captain who was full of helpful suggestions and recommendations.

The hotel itself is great and the staff was wonderful. The bar was closed for a private event the night we arrived but the woman that checked us in said we could use our $50 drink credit at breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was delicious!

The only downside and this has nothing to do with the hotel itself but the streets surrounding the hotel are ROUGH! We’ve stayed in the city many times and thought things were getting better but sadly they don’t appear to be. It was like a scene out of The Walking Dead. People are openly using drugs, there was feces, urine, and a syringe on the sidewalk. Half naked women ran out of a “spa” yelling and banging on the hood of some guy’s car who was trying to get away. No one hassled us but it’s anything but a relaxing stroll in that area. I feel for legitimate businesses trying to keep their doors open.

Upon check in the clerk didn’t know that we had a $50 credit for welcome drinks but upon showing her my confirmation she immediately corrected her paperwork . We had a beautiful corner room with plenty of light . The whole experience here was seamless and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and kind . Breakfast was wonderful . Definitely recommend this hotel .

Flew in specifically for a show at the Curran Theatre and the theatre was only a couple doors away from the hotel so the location was great! Two blocks from Union Square, plenty of restaurants (as anywhere in SF), food and beverage credit was generous. Slept well, room was spacious and had everything I needed. Wish there was room service but that was the only “downside.”

The location is a few blocks away from Union square where the Fashion stores and ubiquitous restaurants are. The king room is huge and elegantly designed. We had an a la carte breakfast at Frederick’s. The breakfast menu options are decent and substantial. It’s also near Toni Rembe Theater for Broadway like performances. All in all we had a great experience. And we wouldn’t mind staying at the Cliff on our return to downtown San Francisco

Our package included a $50 credit at the famous Redwood Room but it was closed the night we were there! (San Francisco is still trying to recover from the pandemic.) The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. Valet secure parking was a plus.

The service in their Redwood Bar was great. But not the pricing. A NZ Sauv Blanc selling for $16 per glass is WAY out of line, far too high. We paid for it, and tipped the excellent server, but won't return to the bar. That bottle likely costs about $5 wholesale for the entire bottle!! Will go elsewhere for cocktails.
