Why We Love This Hotel

  • This property is eye-catching and has been heralded as a masterwork of architect W.G. Clark. The landscaped gardens are also a National Historic Landmark
  • The Inn at Middleton Place has a great selection of outdoor activities, including kayaking, biking and horseback riding
  • All guests receive access to the adjacent 320-year-old 65-acre Middleton Place Plantation. It was designed following the principles of Andre Le Notre, who laid out the gardens at Versailles

Relaxing stay in a beautiful and serene location on the marsh.

Our room, 113, smelled like fireplace embers the three nights we stayed. Opening the window helped a little. Also, one of the window shutters was unsightly because it was broken.

The setting and grounds are very tranquil and beautiful. Having access to Middleton Place was a great perk. The rooms were large and well appointed. The only drawback was the distance to downtown Charleston - about 30 minutes.

This was a very pleasant stay just a short walk to Middleton Place. It is a serene and relaxing place, and the staff very helpful and informative about all that was included with the room rate. We enjoyed the ability to walk straight to the historic gardens at Middleton Place with complimentary admission, the social hour charcuterie, and the evening nightcap, as well as simply sitting under the oaks by the Ashley River while enjoying a glass of wine.

The only suggestion I have is that our room really needed to be aired out. The overwhelming smell of smoke from the fireplace caused my husband to sneeze a lot, and unfortunately all of our clothes had the odor of smoke as well. Since the windows wouldn't open, we couldn't get fresh air which would have been nice during the late evening hours when it was cooler and not so humid, too. Also, there is a spotlight outside that shines directly on the head of the bed, across both pillows all night long. There is no shutter on that window and no eye mask, so I wound up putting a pillow over my head to block the beam of light on my eyes.

Everything was excellent but the cleaning staff cleaned our room and left our door unlocked with towels in a bag in the corner of the door - other than that everything was great and would stay there again.

We liked the convenience to the Plantation. We arrived at one pm and pre-checked in. We were able to get passes for the garden. Our room was not ready at the checkin time of 4pm. It was not ready at 5, I asked for some type of credit and they waived the resort fee of $30. I asked if they could do better and they said that because I had a travelzoo rate, that was the best they could do. We did not get in our room until 5:45. That did not give us time to get ready for our dinner reservation. We enjoyed the inn but felt that they should have done better due to the late checkin. Also, I don’t think they should compensate less because we used Travelzooo. I was going to buy another night as a gift but because of our situation I did not. The resort is lovely and nice location.

The hotel did not look like the picture. The rooms and furnishings were art deco and very euro modern. The staff was friendly and helpful. The neighboring historic plantation was beautiful and the restaurant excellent. There was a lot of walking and the buildings were not ADA compliant. The resort was quiet and off the beaten path. The AC in our room didn’t work. The views were lovely.

This is a good location for couples looking to experience plantation living. Not a great place for children.

Only criticism is that the mattress was too soft for my comfort. Hotel setting was lovely, great ambience.

Please, make sure to tell the management team that getting the hot water in the shower to come out is very hard to figure out! I wasted 5 gallons of water trying to figure out where the sweet spot for the hot water to come out was. A simple arrow or marking hot and cold would suffice. That's an easy fix.
