Since 1913, HOTEL DU PONT, an Historic Hotel of America, has hosted such luminaries as Prince Rainier of Monaco, President John F. Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt. This 4.5-star property is the grand dame of Delaware hotels and sits in the heart of downtown Wilmington. 

Guests are welcomed into a lavish lobby that radiates “old school glamour” (Condé Nast Traveler). Everything from the painted ceiling, furnishings and marble walls is posh and art-inspired. Classic King rooms, at 300 square feet, are cozy and styled with Old-World European décor. Upgraded rooms feature a separate sitting area and deep soaking tubs.

The on-site restaurant, Le Cavalier at The Green Room, is the newest addition to Wilmington’s dining scene and honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley. Chef-Partner Tyler Akin’s seasonal brasserie menu draws influence from Provence and North Africa and showcases innovative riffs on French classics while emphasizing the abundance of Delaware’s foodways. 

The city of Wilmington is small, but it has a vibrant arts and social scene with restaurants, tax-free shopping, and museums and art galleries nearby. The Winterthur Museum and Gardens, a 15-minute drive away, is home to 700 acres of gardens, woodlands and a museum. Enjoyed Most
Leftover food in the refrigerator from previous guest. No sleepers, no bathrobes no bottle water for coffee, no complimentary shoe shine , room was not turned over after first night. Key card for elevator and access door worked only once; had to constantly reprogrammed them!! Staffing was non visible or existent . Main restaurant was closed for no reason !!!! Had to call twice for towels. Not worthy at all for what it's supposed to be as a luxury experience ! Pretty much a 2 star hotel.

The restaurant Le Cavalier was closed on Tuesday. For no reason whatsoever : it was my compagnon Birthday !!!

We enjoyed our stay.. The only problem we had was that there was never anyone at the front desk. We had to knock on the the door or call for them. You could see them sitting in the back . When we first arrived it was Christmas Day and we waited 30 minutes for someone to come to the front desk and about 10 minutes for a valet even though we were the only ones checking on.. There was a problem with the internet at that time. We were very patient.. The evening worker at the desk was very nice. When we returned he was standing at the desk and was very courteous. . We would like to return and try again.

One of the best deals on Travelzoo, being able to stay in a 5 Star hotel for almost 1/2price! Some staff were superb, exactly what you expect but others were just ok. Room was very large, the bed exceptional. Room service breakfast was just ok. The hotel restaurant had a delicious breakfast, but was pricey.

Booking with your company was very easy. We were in route to the hotel and were about 10 minutes away when they called to let me know that they did NOT have a room for us, this was at 3:15pm. I told them that we were close and that I would be there in a few minutes. The person who I spoke with "Justin" was not in the lobby , I think he was hiding out in a back office. When he did come out he stated that there were NO rooms and that was that. I spoke with another manager who said he was sorry, big deal. This was an anniversary trip, my wife became very upset. I have left several messages for the general manager with no response. I called your company to report the incident, they called the hotel and were put on hold. So much for their great customer service. I would warn everyone to stay away from this poorly run hotel.

We specifically booked a deluxe room. When we arrived we were told no such room was available, and that our reservation was effectively meaningless. We were offered a standard room as our only option. No apology, no effort to acknowledge their error. We were essentially told to take this or leave it, the latter not being an option after a lengthy drive and waiting several hours while we were told our room was being readied for us.
