Since 1913, HOTEL DU PONT, an Historic Hotel of America, has hosted such luminaries as Prince Rainier of Monaco, President John F. Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt. This 4.5-star property is the grand dame of Delaware hotels and sits in the heart of downtown Wilmington.

Guests are welcomed into a lavish lobby that radiates “old school glamour” (Conde Nast Traveler). Everything from the painted ceiling, furnishings and marble walls is posh and art-inspired. Classic King rooms, at 300 square feet, are cozy and styled with Old-World European decor. Upgraded rooms feature a separate sitting area and deep soaking tubs. All rooms come equipped with free premium Wi-Fi. There’s a 24-hour fitness center on site for all guests to use. The hotel also offers a free car service to and from the downtown Amtrak train station, based on availability and advance notice.

Known for impeccable food and service, the Green Room is a must-visit; this on-site restaurant has earned many awards, including the state's only AAA 4-Diamond award for a restaurant. The Lobby Lounge is also open for casual afternoon tea, light fare or happy hour, with live tunes on the grand piano.

The city of Wilmington is small, but it has a vibrant arts and social scene with restaurants, tax-free shopping, and museums and art galleries nearby. The Winterthur Museum and Gardens, a 15-minute drive away, is home to 700 acres of gardens, woodlands and a museum. The nearby Playhouse on Rodney Square is a famed theater dating back to 1913; it hosts national Broadway performances, comedies and concerts. Be sure to visit the palatial Nemours Estate, located just a 10-minute drive from the hotel.

The ease of getting to the hotel off of I-95 was great. The hotel ambiance is awesome. The clerk who checked me in and out was did not make me feel like a valued customer. The Travelzoo deal included free macaroons and free valet parking, When I checked in and asked about the macaroons, he curtly said they'll be delivered to my room. A day went by, no macaroons. I called the front desk, another clerk answered, apologized, and immediately sent the macaroons to my room. Then at check out, the clerk that check me in was the check out clerk. He tried charging me for the valet parking. I had to remind him it was part of my Travelzoo deal. I was one of very few African American customers staying at the hotel. I hope his rude behavior was not racially biased.

Beautiful hotel wit great dining for both dinner and Breakfast. The rooms are lovely with robes, slippers, complimentary macaroons and valet service and the hotel graciously drove us to view fireworks at the riverfront and picked us up as well. The Green Room is under renovation and will not be available for 4 to 6 months. The only things that could be improved is our room had no chest of drawers to put our clothes in and the wallpaper was peeling in spots throughout the hotel. The price for the room was terrific and I will definitely return. The staff was efficient and hospitable.

Tip - Tip -Tip.... someone else to tip at every turn! Also, when we checked in they originally charged us for Valet Parking which was included in our TravelZoo pkg. We had to call them on it to get it corrected, so be alert!

We spent New Year's Eve here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beautiful Green Room was a pleasure (and the staff were charming). Our room was spacious and comfortable. And we were able to go see the 9pm fireworks at the Riverfront. Fun!

The Hotel Du Pont is absolutely breathtaking! We couldn't believe the beauty of it when we walked into the lobby. The architecture and design remind you that the hotel has a long history and has remained an institution throughout the years for a good reason. The service was great, the room was very comfortable, and the cookies that waited for us in the room were a deliciously nice touch. We would love to go back.
