Rooms were nice and very clean. Housekeeping does a great job. But the staff is what makes the Francis Marion. From check in to valet, everyone was just fabulous. Special shout out to Elliott Brown, the room service manager who went above and beyond every time we saw him.
The food in the Swamp Fox restaurant is exceptional, and the customer service from both servers Eric and Sylvie exuded customer service and the low country hospitality. They couldn't do enough to make sure your meal was just perfect.
I would go back in a heartbeat - If nothing else - to be spoiled by Elliott, Sylvie and Eric.

A little quirky but charming hotel. The staff was always pleasant and helpful and obviously trained in good hospitality. This added to the old style charm of the hotel. Good location near shopping, and French Quarter. Room was a little oddly set up with two very small bathrooms, but that is not something directly in their control with an old hotel.

Carpeting was being laid so inconvenient to get to front desk. Very noisy, right outside red light with lots of traffic well into the night. One night I came back to the hotel to find a disaster cleanup service due to a leak in kitchen which backed up to toilets and resulted in bad smell. Really poor workmanship in bathroom vanity & toilet paper holder fell off the wall.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Francis Marion Hotel in the heart of downtown Charleston. The location is absolutely perfect. Everything we wanted to see and do was completely walkable—we were steps away from historic Marion Square (where we were lucky enough to see an art exhibition, I assume part of The Spoleto Festival), great shopping on King Street, and beautiful city sights.
The staff was always helpful. Everyone we encountered was incredibly welcoming, kind, and attentive. The breakfast staff (thank you Dorothy and Christine) at Swamp Fox Restaurant could not do enough and always with a smile! We stayed in a double room which had ample space, but while the bathroom was adequate, just know that it is small. If you want a classic, southern-charm hotel in the center of all the action, this is the place to be.

I love this hotel. Stayed here many times. The bathrooms are tiny but it’s an older building so that’s to be expected. There is always room at the desk for makeup and hair. The hotel is a little on the outskirts of the downtown area but you can’t beat the value.

Spent 2 nights while visiting our son in Charleston. Hotel is in a great location in downtown Charleston within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The buffet breakfast included with our package was amazing. Room was very nice although bathrooms are small. Used the valet parking which made going in and out much easier. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

From the moment we arrived to our departure, our stay was a wonderful break for us. Complimentary bottle of wine & truffles in addition to the included breakfast buffet, the spacious room made it even more special. The on site restaurant, The Swamp Fox, was very good as well. We were there during restaurant week and got a great deal on a 3 course dinner. We were within walking distance of the City Market as well as shops and restaurants. Would highly recommend the Francis Marion!

Wonderful stay for 2 nights. Beautiful hotel on Marion Square close to King St and College of Charleston with lots of shopping and dining options. Hotel is older and could certainly use a fresh coat of paint. Looking past that, great lobby ambiance for Charleston. Room was great size but had 2 double beds (not queens). Bathroom is tiny - especially for a family traveling. Has all the amenities and more of a 5-star hotel. Onsite concierge is awesome plus complimentary coffee in the morning, cookies in the afternoon and champagne at happy hour! Not to mention Starbucks is in the hotel for extra convenience!

The hotel is in a great location. The beds were comfortable and the AC was nice and cold on a very hot day. The front desk staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. We weren't given our breakfast vouchers or bottle of wine and truffles after asking multiple times and being told it would be sent to the room. We finally after 3x going to front desk got breakfast vouchers and they ended up giving us a credit for the bottle of wine and truffles, which we were fine with, but shouldn't have had to track them down for the amenities
